Amanita Design has filled a niche within gaming for the past - what is it now? Over ten years? If you want inventive point and click adventure games without dialogue but with an extra four helpings of imagination and charm, you go to them.

Samorost 3 is no different. It’s certainly the most bizarro one of the bunch - it takes a very Katamari Damacy view of the universe, with tiny planets bursting with life orbiting right around each other. It’s so solarpunk that your space ship is literally made out of a mushroom and half a water bottle. The game blends mysticism and sci fi very well.

This IS an Amanita Design game, though, so be prepared for moon moon MOON logic puzzles. I honest to god would not have gotten off the first planet if it wasn’t for a walkthrough. These guys don’t fuck around. The game overstays its welcome a little, too. With sound and character design so charming, though, it was hard not to resist.

You know the drill, my friends: if you’re a point and click connossieur, pick this shit up.

I also have some life updates, yeah!

If all goes well, I should be making actual money next week, walking dogs from 11am-3pm every weekday. Since this dog walking business is an offshoot branch of a dog training business, I’ve been undergoing some rigorous training to handle dogs the way they want me to, discipline-wise. Apparently, I’ve got a knack for this; I’m calm with the dogs and I pick up direction well.

I’ve also done two roller derby practices and I’m enjoying myself a lot! I still have a long way to go, but I’m already seeing improvement: I’m skating more easily and I’m able to squat deeper into derby stance, though not for long. I’m having a lot of trouble with my knees, and early onset arthritis runs in my family. I’m going to make an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to ask him what’s the ‘good’ kind of pain that you exercize through, and what’s the kind of pain that means ‘stop it’s too much for today’. Maybe even I’ll get a month or two of physical therapy to strengthen and protect my knees. The last thing I want to do is to mess up early on and injure myself.

So: ya girl’s gonna get fit! Unfortunately: ya girl’s gonna have less time to play video games. While I definitely want to keep making space in my life for games, bc I love them and this site, expect reviews to slow down some.

See you soon!

I really enjoyed Samorost 3 (though not quite as much as Botanicula). Definitely needed to consult a walkthrough a few times (including getting some of the more obscure achievements) but it was definitely fun.

Congrats again on the job…and the new form of exercise! I picture you being really tall and thin for roller derby– I hope you don’t get bounced out of the arena. :p But I’m sure you’ve got some moves and will probably get pretty fast as well. Good luck!

I think Botanicula is also my favorite Amanita Design game, too. It made sense to me. This one was just bonkers - in a way I enjoyed, but still!

Thank you very much! I do have to work on getting low enough to be able. The one good thing is that about four different people (including the guy himself) pointed me to this one player who was like ‘you were so much like him when he started’, and he’s giving me tips on how to keep from hunching in derby pose.

I hope to eventually be a pivot or even a jammer. I want to BLAZE around that track! Thank you, Trent c:

Kudos on improving already that’s awesome. :D And good luck with your knees! I hope you’re able to find some things to help manage it. My mom’s had issues with her knees for a long time and just got xrays done to find out she has arthritis. Though her knees strengthened and gave out a lot less when she was working out a year ago. Smart of you to ask about the pain before worsening it more.

Glass Masquerade was an enjoyable, gorgeous looking puzzle game. Hope you’re enjoying it. :)

Thank you! I hope I can maintain them right.

I am! It is gorgeous. I hope to finish it tomorrow c:
