I was very excited when I realized I had retroactively gotten a key for Tiny Echoes from Humble - it’s a gorgeous looking point and click explore-y game that seemed right up my alley! And it was… except it didn’t quite reach me.
It’s so lovely and obviously well-made but… I don’t know. I think I’m just not meant for wordless narratives - I like talking too much to not prefer dialogue. I felt like a distance between myself and what was happening. I didn’t quite get what was going on until the end, but by that point it was over.
In Tiny Echoes, you play a little eyeball mail lady who goes around and delivers prayers from above as mail to the souls of those who live below. There’s some minor puzzles to get to some of the more elusive denizens, but largely you’re just walking and clicking and looking. I couldn’t engage completely with the game - from the slightly-too-slow movement speed, to how long each screen took to load (long enough to pull me out of the game), to the difficulty I had trying to figure out what I could walk on and what I couldn’t all culminated in an uncomfortable play experience.
I wanted to like this so much more than I did - but I think it’s definitely a little game I am so glad exists.
Next up: Tomorrow’s going to be a little rough, so I’m treating myself!

I played the first third, and I really liked it! I think the ARDware system is so fascinating. I’m taking my time with it, and I’ll finish it tomorrow.

If I remember correctly, I think I remember you really enjoying Gone Home. The devs did a good job recreating that feeling so I think you’ll enjoy it ^-^
It’s okay… I just have a job interview in a few hours, and I’m a little nervous! It’s been a while since my last interview, and I’m hoping this goes well.

Thank you, stef! I don’t mind interviews - it’s stressful securing them, though @_@ It did go well, but unfortunately the job is 95% being on the phone, which I’m not thrilled about. People get mean on phones, and I’m not great with them.
I will definitely take it if I get it, though - I really need something right now. Anything. Uuuugh….
ugh I know what you mean. People feel less afraid to be mean over the phone then in person. At least over the phone you don’t have to look at them and you can be obviously annoyed without it showing on your face.
