Update One Hundred and Thirty-Three: 28 February 2018

Hot Tin Roof: the Cat That Wore a Fedora

1.1 hours, 2 of 31 achievements
Did Not Finish/10

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I wasn’t expecting to squeeze another game removed from my backlog into February, but I also wasn’t expecting this game to be so… bad. It’s bad. It feels like a senior project game, made with heart and moxy but not a whole lot of finesse. I see where this game is GOING but it’s not really doing itself any favors on getting there.

It’s a goofy world, I get that, but it’s too much. It wants to be different, I get that, but it makes design choices that don’t make a lot of sense (faux-3D but the camera snaps 2D. Platforming, when your character handles like a brick). It’s carved a niche out between… metroidvanias… and point and click adventure games??? that’s just… a bad move.

I played for one hour and got myself stuck down a labrythine cavern and just don’t care enough to try and get myself out. I’m moving this to Won’t Play, and I’m going to accept and move on from what that will do to my achievement percentage.

See you soon!

I’m sorry you didn’t like it D:

I hope you enjoy the Rivers of Alice, though. I enjoyed that one~

Ugh, me too! The dev seems super nice, it’s just… not good <:c

That’s good to hear! Yes, looking at it makes me think I’ll enjoy it, too.

Yeah :< I’ve been playing Jones on Fire in preparation for Hot Tin Roof so it sucks that you didn’t like it D:

I was stuck for a bit and had to use a walkthrough, but I really loved it overall xP

I’m very happy to hear that - I see and appreciate the attention and love the dev put in, and I’m glad that it was able to reach and move you. I hope you like Hot Tin Roof so much more than I did.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

this game is soo rubbish

Eh different strokes I guess? I quite enjoyed it. Or rather the idea of it. I know it wasn’t the best implementation and initially it wasn’t easy to get into, but thought the premise was interesting. A metroidvanian where you gather clues and solve a mystery and have multiple endings. I’d love to see someone else make a game like that, just with better actual platforming mechanics.

That’s fair - to me, in this combination I only saw the worst aspects of those two genres. I agree with your last statement c:

I’ve been known to “try out” a game on an alt kid’s account to see if I’m going to like it enough to gain enough achievements not to screw up my percentage.

I’m not proud, but it’s true.

You sly dog!! That’s so smart. I’ll have to keep that in mind… but enough damage has been done, and I’m confident that with enough hard work, determination, and good games, it’ll overwhelm the ‘ohhh nooo’ ones.
