Monthly Update #16: August 2020

BACKLOG PROGRESS!!!!!!! (and the month of betas.....)

I cheated and deleted nearly 200 games from my Steam library. I was going through my games trying to create a couple of categories for playing remotely on the TV and for local co-op. I had so many games to wade through that I wasn't excited to play at all, so ended up creating an extra category called ZEETRASH at the same time, and added anything I thought I wouldn't want to play to it. Then gave them the boot.

If you are interested at all in what got kicked to the curb, I took a couple of screenshots when Backlog couldn't compute after the sync. There are probably a few alright games in there, but I have so many excellent games I doubt I'll get to if I keep these :)

Another reason for wanting to do this, is that I have a fair few longer games I keep putting off and have been playing shorter games instead. I've finally put in an order for an Ultrawide monitor, so I'm hoping once that comes, I can start playing some of the more graphical intensive games I've been putting off :) (if the order is ever processed....)

And this month I've realised I played a little bit of 3 different betas - Fall Guys, Avengers and New World.

Backlog

PROGRESS!

Deleting games from Steam is progress right? :P

So minus 196 games. Add below.. haha

I was really happy with HB Choice this month. I have a slight interest in all the games, so I actually activated everything, except Vampyr which I already have. I also went through some keys and started activating some, giving away some more again. I dislike having a huge pile of unused keys!
I also caved and bought Pistol Whip on Oculus Quest when I got a voucher to use - just to mix up Beat Saber.

GreenManGaming's Wheel of Mystery

GreenManGaming's Wheel of Mystery has been skipped the last couple of months, so this month we got 2 spins!! The games we could get were Death Stranding, Horizon Zero Dawn, Destroy All Humans, Doom Eternal and Prey - So 3 I really wanted... and I got 2 of them in the wheel, the other from trading :D
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • DEATH STRANDING
  • Destroy All Humans!

  • Humble Bundle

  • Call of Cthulhu
  • A Case of Distrust
  • Little Big Workshop
  • Automachef
  • We Were Here Together
  • The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters
  • Wargroove
  • Through The Darkest of Times
  • Genesis Alpha One Deluxe Edition

  • American Fugitive
  • Vikings - Wolves of Midgard

  • Activating older keys again..

  • Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones

1- Even with 200 games removed, your beaten/completed got only a +4% lol. So many games to play still!
At least you got rid of that 1% won’t play. :P

2- Fall Guys beta?! What did you think of the game?

3- You said you didn’t beat any games, but between July and August bars, there is an increase of 10 beaten games. Did you mark some “endless” games as beaten or something? :D

4- Go finish Etherborn! And be done with it LOL.

5- I’m still kinda interested in Automachef, but I looked closer and it seems similar to “Big Pharma” - I should probably play that one instead of wanting a new game just like that.
Also, we should arrange some time to play “We Were Here” games… My boyfriend will definitely not play the rest with me :’(

malabagaa

I think the message below is for you :)
just sending a notification

aonrao

Haha thanks. I wouldn’t have noticed!

malabagaa

You’re welcome ^_^

Haha thank you! Phone doesn’t work well for replying to comments D:

malabagaa

No problem ^_^
I was going to reply to you at first but then I realized it would have been faster to message them directly :)

  1. Shh don’t tell me the odds!
  2. I liked it, it’s fun. Not sure I’d want to spend a lot of time in it though - it’s very repetitive.
  3. Yeah haha. As I was cleaning some games out I marked some as Beaten - mostly multiplayer games with no definite end with a fair amount of hours. So the counter-strikes for example :)
  4. Ergh. I still have part of my review for this game. That narration has killed any want to actually play the game, it was that pretentious!
  5. That you should - you were saying you had nothing to play…

Yes please! I’ll have to find a day you’re free and that I don’t go to bed at like 7-8pm haha

aonrao

Do you remember which games you marked as beaten?
Also, you can ignore Etherborn’s narration. It doesn’t really effect the game imo.
I’m kinda bored of Big Pharma tho. I played it 12 hours last month, and just finished first batch of challenges LOL.

Jaded

Hmmm I think some of them were:

Counter-Strike: Source
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Deep Rock Galactic
Killing Floor 2
Monster Hunter: World
The Elder Scrolls Online
Warhammer: Vermintide 2

A lot of multiplayer games with no end that I’ve played 10+ hours of.

aonrao

Good ones! I’ll do something similar this month maybe. Or I’ll wait until december - we’ll see. :D

Garcias

Maybe I never really looked into that GMG Wheel of Mystery, since I’m not into loot boxes and etc, but those are some pretty great games (and options)! The website is not available, so what have I been missing?

Jaded

It is pretty much just talk on their forums. Once a month(mostly), they have a wheel of mystery, which is randomly put up with a limited amount of games. You spin it using 100 points you have earned from talking on the forums (generally 1 non-spam post = 1 point, sometimes they have forum competitions and events for 10-30 points or even games, like Cuphead one time!). Sometimes all the games are good, sometimes they aren’t so I tend to save points if only 1 game interests me. Any time you spin the wheel, it’s 100% chance you get a game from the 5 games on the wheel. I just don’t spin if less than half the games interest me.

If you are active, you can generally spin each month, sometimes you may miss a month, but it gives you time to get points.

Forum: https://www.greenmangaming.com/forum
Wheel: https://www.greenmangaming.com/wheel-of-mystery (Only active a few hours generally a month lol)

It’s pretty much part of their advertising to get people to look at the store and become familiar with it :)

Oh and here are some of the games resulting from the wheel that I had activated: https://www.backlog-assassins.net/lists/kl53o3d
A lot more I’ve traded or given away as well!

Garcias

I signed up yesterday (which you noticed), and I’ll check it a few times a day to see if I can get enough points to maybe try the wheel this month, if not, October it is. I went and looked at your list and the history of the wheels in the last months, and I’m a bit sad I only now discovered it. I usually only buy bundles and many of the games in the wheels are part of my wishlist, so it’s a bit of a motivation to try and be active there! So, once again, thanks and I’ll see you there as well!

Jaded

Even if you only manage to spin it every few months, it’s definitely well worth it! Also, try join the discord if you use discord - we have a wheel ping we use for the regulars so we all get notified when it’s live :P

Garcias

I searched on the forum, but the only one I found was invalid. Did it change in the meanwhile or something?

Here: https://discord.gg/Y5wyyeS
I’ve made it to only expire after used 5 times lol

Garcias

Just joined. Thanks once again!

aonrao

The Wheel of Mystery is pretty neat!

Garcias

It is, indeed!

aonrao

I saw that you joined GMG. Welcome!

Garcias

I did, gotta get those free games ahah Thanks!

Vito

I cheated and deleted nearly 200 games from my Steam library.

In my opinion that’s not cheating but freeing your backlog from unnecessary clutter. Some people delete the games, some have 1/3 of their library in the “won’t play” category. I applaud your braveness to delete about 200 games. That’s really a lot! I deleted about a dozen games once from my library and it felt great having them off my back. I can only imagine the relief you must feel :)

Great screenshots by the way. I see you played Wolf Among Us, a game I really liked. Black the Fall and A Case of Distrust are among my unactivated keys, so good to see that they are rather short games.

I hope your monitor arrives soon and wish you a lot of fun with tackling some of the bigger games!

Jaded

Haha yeah that’s the way I’m thinking of it - it’s a relief to get rid of a heap of games I really had no intention of playing anyway .
I also didn’t want to see the glaring red in the ‘Won’t play’ category - it looks angry! :P

Wolf Among Us was great! I played Walking Dead last month, so I’m slowly going to go through the Telltale games. Black the Fall is very much like INSIDE, A Case of Distrust I needed a guide at the end to confirm who to accuse lol

Thank you! It could be another month, so hopefully when it finally does arrive it’s perfect!

skanda

A fellow library cleaner! Shame about some of the games that will never get their chance to shine, but there’s really not much point keeping them around when there’s so much other stuff to play.

Jaded

Haha yeah - I felt like a lot of them were preventing me from playing other games, so a worthy sacrifice :P
