November Sum-Up

This month is dedicated to finish my wins and gifts.

Half-Life 2

A nice short, pixelated horror game with some scary-looking enemies that will put you on an edge. Most of the game are just jumpscares, there is nothing that will make you awake at night (unless if you are not into pixelated gore).

A nice puzzle game with outstanding visuals. If you are a fan of walking simulators or want to try walking simulators with some gameplay, you might want to try this one.

A nice stealth game with short levels. I like the simplicity and I was craving for one after not enjoying Aragami 2 because of its long levels and annoying enemies that take time to revert back to their positions.

I don't know. The game feels like it's trying to showcase LGBTQ+ variety with the different characters. Strangely, there are no straight people as the main characters (or maybe there isn't any at all in the game? I'm not sure). The story is alright. I like the visuals though and the combat is quite unique, albeit repetitive.

I'm not good at beat 'em ups, but somehow I liked trying them. This one is nice, although it only supports local coop. I played it solo and it's doable in the easiest difficulty. It has some grindy achievements though.

I liked it. It's a 3D platformer with some exploration from time to time. The platforming sections are enclosed in places called Voids, making each level simple, different, and challenging. The exploration helps me to recover from the Voids since it can be tiring to keep on playing those (some of them can be challenging and taxing to finish, although I still enjoyed them).

Half-Life 2

The Whispered World Special Edition

Played it becaue it's Silence's prequel. I didn't like it. The story is too basic and the point and click segments tend to not make any sense. I feel a bit conflicted about the ending too.

Whoa, the visuals are beautiful. They might not getting some love near the end but they are still great. The story is better than The Whispered World Special Edition since it tries to touch some emotions and flows better (especially because of the kid).

Kinda alright. The theme is about compromise but I just feel that it's too short and not memorable enough.

Half-Life 2

The Walking Dead: Season Two

It's been a long time since I played the first one so I forgot some details, but it was as good as the first one. The pacing isn't as slow as the first one and it still has some gripping scenes. I think I somehow can symphatize what they are feeling too. My head hurts from all the stress that they are going through, hahah.

I always wanted to play a shop simulator and I suck at Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale so this one is a nice surprise. I liked the deckbuilding element when you are haggling with customers. I like that it's more about time management. Sometimes I felt that it can be too strict with time, though. I almost can't survive the first 10 days because of it. The game is quite relaxing once you know what to do, but there are a lot of things to learn.

Another beat 'em up. I just don't like the control scheme. Wanted to play it with controller but I am not comfortable to attack with my right analog stick, so I switched to keyboard. And man, enemies take too long to kill. I clicked so many times when I played the game - I just hope that my mouse isn't broken. Other than that, it was a nice one. I liked that it tries to compromise solo play by having all 4 characters switchable - you basically bring 4 characters on every playthrough. This one also seems to be geared more towards online plays. You can create lobby and wait for people to join, although it seems to be dead since nobody joined when I played (or maybe they just don't accept new player in the middle of the stage).

That’s all for last month. This month I’ll still be chipping away at my wins (got some new ones from November), and I still want to play some RPG Maker games. Not sure how it’ll go though, sometimes I hate my backlog.

See you later.

Kyrrelin

one character even changed their hair color while you were gone and it was never explained in the game

I believe it’s because Noah shorten the candle for it to fit in the lantern thus shorting Kyra’s life, after all Shana said that each candle represent person’s lifespan. Also first time her hair turn white is after being resuscitated with electroshock under the tree.
Edit: And we were basically there all the time, just going between Shana’s rooms, she was just frozen and once woken up her hair were white.

aquatorrent

hmm that makes sense.
the frozen part was a bit weird though. i mean, sadwick just go through the tunnel and he’s suddenly separated from the party and found two of their friends frozen. it’s like there is something skipped in the process. the next episode also seems to be skipped when they suddenly change place to the… ship? (i kinda forgot). that one might be done to focus on the important parts, but i was completely confused on the frozen part.

Kyrrelin

Well, I wouldn’t say that he got suddenly separated. Renie and Kyra go ahead to the sewers to search for Shana, Samuel and Janus run into city to check up with the remnants of rebel forces (I believe). Sadwick is sulking and taking his sweet time following the girls, once he gets to the sewers they are both already frozen. Seems okay to me.
Hm, I haven’t found anything wrong with the ship part, because after leaving Shana their destination is port. For me was more confusing what the others (Kyra etc.) were doing there…

aquatorrent

I dont think there are dialogues that say that - they just suddenly go their own way. I didnt see renie and kyra going to the sewers either. Afaik, sadwick was the first one that use the tunnel.

I think kyra was there to prevent sadwick and renie from reaching the port since they want to shatter the mirror, but i’m not sure what plan they have in mind to fight the plague. I also wish it is better explained, though.

Kyrrelin

Okay, I am little confused now. Are we talking about the same thing? ^^ Because Noah goes definitely as the last one to the sewers / underground (video - 2:02:30). Or was there some other tunnel?

Well yeah, I know why they were there, it’s just that the whole situation was so aggravated and in the end it wouldn’t make much difference if Kyra and the others weren’t there at all.

aquatorrent

okay, i think i might have missed that part about renie and kyra going down to the sewers… how did i not notice that? did i watch with my eyes closed? :o
i’ll just remove that paragraph from my review, then. my bad!

i think the difference was more on the psychological side on renie’s part. in that option she either has to see kyra and co dies or the caterpillar (i forgot the name) sacrified himself.

Kyrrelin

That’s okay, I just wanted to get to the bottom of this as I had different memories about it. ;)

Strangely, there are no straight people as the main characters

Maybe it’s just been a while since I played that game, but I’m pretty sure Rook is straight.

the grindy part of the game when you need to gather some gold for equipment.

I don’t remember grinding that much (or at all, really); did you skip a bunch of battles at some point?

aquatorrent

I think i have to rephrase that - i meant non lgbtq+ characters that are straight, or whatever the term is (just looked it up - i think it’s cis?). Rook is non binary afaik.

I didn’t, but i had to refight some battles to get enough money for some equipments. I later ditched it and just go straight to the boss with unupgraded gears though.

devonrv

Ima is the non-binary one; you can tell by the pronouns. Rook is always referred to by male pronouns (thus, part of the m/f binary), and I don’t remember any evidence that Rook is trans, so by process of elimination, he is cis.

aquatorrent

He stated that he is a non binary, though. I think he is a non binary with he/his pronoun. I’m not sure how to treat non binaries as straight, but he dated mari so at least we know he has a thing for woman.

devonrv

Clearly, he’s just lying to fit in with his peers. :P

jk, I concede.

I will say that just having that one throw-away line doesn’t exactly help with representation since he’d definitely be considered straight without it; it comes across more like “oh, by the way, this guy isn’t part of the guy/gal binary, give us accolades,” especially when compared to how well the other characters are handled.

aquatorrent

I agree with you. It can be confusing since we wont know that he is a non binary until he stated it (and then it wont matter if he stated it since nothing will change as you said).

Zelrune

Congratulations on your assassinations!!! I liked Call of the Sea as well. I sorta suspected the ending since the beginning dream but; that would have been a really cool way to end the game and usually endings are more, boring and logical, so I was really happy.

aquatorrent

to be honest, i didn’t expect the ending to be that way. i thought that something bad was happening to her, hahah. i liked both endings though :)
