    Boy, this game was a blast! It's really rare that I'm that addicted to a game that I have to force myself to stop playing. That was the case with Moonlighter.

    Basically the game is about looting dungeons at night and open your shop at day where you can sell the loot you found. Upgrade your shop and your weapons with the money you make, buy new merchants for the town and go back to the dungeons again. So kind of like Recettear but with a better fighting system?

    To be fair I had a difficult time at the start. The game won't really tell you anything how things work and not even explains the controls. It does show you a picture but I couldn't make any sense out of it. The old grump who is mad at you for going to the dungeons talks more than the game explains itself and I took my time to get used to it's mechanics. But after that I had a really great time!

    With the lack of explanation I missed a lot of stuff. When I finally found out that skeletons drop weapons I was already almost done so I never found any accessories. There is a note about a ring that if you die you won't lose any loot you have found and I wonder what else there was. I somehow got the feeling I haven't seen everything which is also the reason why I can't give this game a full 5 star rating.

    When opening your shop you have to make your own prices and try find the right one which isn't too expensive or too cheep. Customers don't come with a budget except that rich people will pay for too expensive items while others won't. If you find the correct price there will be a note in your handbook but only if the item isn't considered as low or high demand and if the buyer wasn't rich. To be honest that was a pain in the ass. When you focus on higher level dungeons the items of the prior will get a higher demand because they're getting rare which causes that you'll never be able to find the correct price anymore without looting the hell out of the previous dungeons but there's no reason why you should do that.

    Also after some time spent in the dungeons and with your shop you get rich. Like really really rich. And after becoming a triple millionaire there's almost no reason to open your shop anymore because you can already buy everything you want. Still you find stuff that's even more worth and you get even wealthier.

    Everything else was superb. I loved exploring the dungeons even if you can only hold onto 20 items and won't ever be able to upgrade your backpack. You have then to decide which item you take with you or hope to find a chest that sends your stuff back home so you can explore even further. I hated that at first but after a time it was great because it forced me to explore the dungeon even further for secrets and not only searching for the boss level. I loved how you have to figure everything else out on your own with the prices and so on expect for the things mentioned above. The bosses reminded me of the bosses from Zelda and I loved defeating them.

    It's really a shame there exist only a few games with managing your own shop because I love doing this. Only other game that comes in mind is Recettear... So my question for you: Do you know any games like this one? I'm so open for recommendations, so please. If you know something, let me know!

    This game is short. Like. Really short. Really really short. And by far too short! It's a fairly easy point & click game with a cute and hand drawn art style and great voice actors. The problem I had with it was that the game is so short it can't develop a deeper story and it can't introduce it's characters properly. I enjoyed Merr pretty much becauuuuuuse of his weirrrrrrd waaaay to talllllk but I never will know about his intentions. I have a lot of questions and I'm upset that I will never know. The game had great potential but in the end it fails to keep in memory.

    Challenge Me!

    Uuuh this one was difficult. You play as Dawn, a woman who can only be seen by a little girl named Didi, but can also move through shadows. This was really interesting and it has a great story and atmosphere. The music was great too, especially the singing ♥ Tbf I was a bit annoyed of Didi but I guess I just don't like kids in videogames.

    The puzzles were great. Really creative. Still the controls were... kinda clunky? The camera sometimes moves really weird and not for your advantage and it's rather unforgiving if you move a bit too far or jump a bit too early. So for the beginning I srsly didn't have fun at all because of those controls and then there was this puzzle I just couldn't get around. I was that frustrated I almost dropped this game despise the challenge but I wanted to try it one last time and suddenly... I really liked it? I don't know what happened, maybe I had a better day or something but actually if you get used to the controls the game indeed is fun. Sadly the game is pretty short and because I hated it first there wasn't much time left for me to enjoy it when I finally was able to do so. I'd like to see a sequel!

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on This is the Police II, enjoyed the first one and Rebel Cops looks intriguing as well.

So far I really enjoy it just as much as the first one, maybe even a bit more! I’m sceptic of Rebel Cops tho. The turn based tactic missions at TITP2 have their flaws and can be really annoying but I guess if they improved them (and especially made them faster because the animations are so extremely slow and not skipable) it could be a great game! I probably won’t buy it tho so you have to try that out for us ;3

Interesting timing, I played Contrast recently as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it though, despite not being good at platformers due to crappy reflexes. I absolutely do want a sequel as well.

The third act was by far the best one imho. I loved to collect the secrets that actually give hints on what is going on. Maybe if there were already some in the first chapter it would’ve been more interesting for me because I suck at platformers too. :/ A sequel would be totally awesome!

I agree, the story/background type stuff was too stuffed into the end of the game, it should have been spread out more.

Same for me, I really enjoyed Contrast! Too bad your experience wasn’t as fun from the start as mine. But I am still hoping for a sequel, someday.

And about Zelda, I am close to finishing it I believe (not completing) and it sure is a great remake so far for me! Did you play the GameBoy version too? I’d also be curious to know what you thought of it.

I played the GB version too, but I was too young to remember most of it. I really liked the remake and I love that Nintendo is always willing to take a risk with it’s setting. Imagine something like God of War would get a game that looks like Link’s Awakening now :D
The only thing I didn’t like was how clueless I always was where to go next after each dungeon because there are little to no hints at all.
How do you like it so far and what’s your opinion on building your own dungeon with the chambers?

I didn’t mind too much having to guess where to go next, but I always managed to find my way easily except for the last dungeon. But I remembered the formula fast, it was basically do dungeon, get new power up, use it to reach the next dungeon. Also I got fairly lucky (though I talked with everyone) as I managed to smoothly get the trade quest going without having to think about it much.

On the other hand, the last dungeons felt rather hard. I mean the first six are quite easy and then boom. I got stuck so long trying to understand how to reach last pillar. And the last dungeon, I’m stuck as well. I haven’t looked it up yet but I think I might need to this time as it’s getting boring running around and not finding where to go!

Anyway, I didn’t bother with the dungeon builder yet. I don’t think I will either. I’ve read the rewards aren’t worth it and I’m not really good at building these thing (I sucked at Mario Maker already, I prefer playing these games than building).

The last dungeon really was hard. I had to remind myself continually that I’m suppose to have fun >D Pay close attention to walls. You can place bombs fairly often but the places are really well hidden. What I missed were the two bomb-eating enemies as I killed them on their level and not up there where the chest appears after killing them. The chest disappears again when you finally are up there so I forgot about it.

The dungeon builder is not comparable with Mario Maker tho. You already own those chambers and you just tuck them together. Rewards are usually heart pieces or more chambers so yeah. I was a bit disappointed in them too :/
