Blue Ϟ Lightning

a dark update for your viewing pleasure. You’re welcome everyone’s eyes.

Nearly 2 years later as far as I know I’ve finally finished styx.
I made it harder for myself by focusing on never being seen (reloading if I am caught) on every level but I finally did it.

Styx has some of the best game mechanics and stealth of anything I’ve played…and thats it.
The level design is lacking… unimaginative and repetitive as after the 3d mission they start reusing all the same areas again and again.
The story is functional but I didn’t find it engaging.
However it makes up for it with solid fucking gameplay.
that is all…no intrest in getting the speed medal and no kill insignias for the missions it was so much effort just getting shadow…however I’m excited to try the second game sometime.

Call of Cthulhu is solid.
dark and creepily themed for the most part the stat based system where you can put points into the type of skills you want (picking locks? smashing down the door? seducing the guard?) with multiple ways to get around and through stuff along with a scale of how insane you’ve become based on how many weird things you’ve done like reading books made out of human skin gives you a nice sort of immersion. And the story while hitting every single cliche you could find about Cthulhu and those types of detective stories is really nicely done. I found myself playing late into the night during exam season to finish it.

my one gripe with this game is the FUCKING SHAMBLER. slight spoiler but the regular stealth sequences are fine but ho boi do I fucking hate the shambler stealth sequences it can always run faster than you and hear you and stabby stabby eat your face and make you cry. Why do story games have to put in bullshit like this its fucking soma all over again gdamned monster

Among the Sleep

1.9 hours, 1 of 10 achievements

Challenge Me

Among the sleep was both surprisingly better than I thought it would be and not as scary…for some reason I thought it would be more horror pain and suffering but nope.

Yomawari: Night Alone

2.2 hours, 2 of 27 achievements

Observer

1.9 hours, 1 of 19 achievements

I just started playing >Observer_ and yomawari among other things both are fun enough for me to want to continue but neither interest me enough to play unless I’m killing time

JaffaCaffa

Unpopular opinion: I find reading white text MUCH harder to read. My eyes glaze over and go blurry, I dunno how you people do it. :P

Glad you had fun with Styx! I’ve heard the accuracy of jumping and combat is severely lacking as well, but am saving it for a rainy day if I’m ever in the mood again for a stealth game. Normally when I’m craving that kinda gameplay I get super into it, so much more likely to forgive its downfalls and have a blast anyways.

Felt the same about >Observer_, was hyped for it based on the trailer but man I had a hard time getting invested in the story or excited to pick it back up. Tried a few times and it was fine while playing, wasn’t terrible by any means..but something wasn’t clicking and doubt I’ll ever finish it.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I’ve found an extension to make every website dark themed and after skanda commented on it I did this.
I guess the only thing is the text thats been converted is closer to a light grey than pure white but I couldn’t figure out the correct shade and stuff.

combat lacking isn’t a problem because its strictly a stealth game.
you can totally deal with a guard but once multiple appear you quickly become overwhelmed if you try to fight them.
it makes sense and adds to the gameplay advantage of wanting to come in and sneak up on them to stab them in the back or makes you inclined to use a throwing knife.
in comparison dishonored has similar melee combat but lets you use a gun and bow and you can shoot people in the legs then run up and decapitate them if you so desire…basically you can play a dishonored game on high chaos as if its a fps or something and completly forgo the “stealth” part but in this you really can’t.

again its a mood sort of thing cause It took me 2 years to get through those 30 hours.

I definitely want to finish >Observer_ but also last time I started it up my controller wasn’t working for it and I just gave up on playing it at that time instead of trying to fix it (worked first time didn’t when I tried a week later)

JaffaCaffa

Gotta love extensions. I’m sure if I was exposed to it constantly I’d eventually get used to it.

And yeah I see, thanks for the explanation! Basically all of the reviews I watched/read made it sound like it was similar to Dishonored in that it has both stealth and combat, just that combat was much poorer and the mechanics were to blame…rather than it’s what the game set out to do. I can understand how many people would prefer to have options if comparing to Dishonored and having different expectations going into it, but it’s nice to know that it’s strictly a stealth game.

mandrill

I second your unpopular opinion. But I guess that’s no surprise :)

adil

Dark theme is nice! I find no difference in difficulty of reading but to me it is more pleasant this way!

Blue Ϟ Lightning

They are similar when im in a bright room but as soon as its dim or dark my eyes hurt if its not dark themed.
Also just like the asthetic

EvilBlackSheep

Hell yes for a dark themed post.

I’m glad you liked Call of Cthulhu (Fuck the shambler though) and Among the sleep (it IS better than expected, right? I did think it would be THAT thematic before actually playing it).

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Oh yeah quite a bit more than expected i had this idea it would be like just you crawling around surounded by jump scares or something but instead it had this cool creepy vibe

EvilBlackSheep

To me i was suprised how serious the actual theme of the game was while it never came as such looking at the steam page. Also, fuck that passage in the forest where the mom is trying to catch you. I thought i’d have a heart attack. I’m not good at jumpscares.

Kaleith

No swearing on the internet, I’ll tell mom skanda

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Plz do she needs to reply to my postu :3<

Kaleith

She’s too busy for you

skanda

Kaleith

njoem…?

skanda

Omg! :o

skanda

I got downgraded from granny? :aaaaa:

Trent

When did they add all of those collectibles (and achievements) to Among the Sleep? Well, I’m glad I haven’t played it yet. Nothing worse than completing a game 100% only to have a bunch of time-consuming/annoying/difficult/whatever achievements added.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I almost wish theres wasnt an achivement for beating the game…that 1/10 is messing up my average completion :/

iskibiribiri

I played Styx: Master of Shadows for 12 hours, beat the first 2 missions and I’m not sure if I’ll finish it.
And I already got the second game ;-;

Blue Ϟ Lightning

Yeah the next however many missions (6?) Are all similar/the same as the first two and some use parts of the same areas and its kinda samy…so i dont think i can recomend it other than the gameplay itself.

Which by the way if you try the second game id love to here how it is-if its better worse whatever

iskibiribiri

I’m not sure when I’ll try the second game.
But I’ll let you know, if you didn’t try the game until there.

skanda

Hello, this is dog!
