Stories Untold

While searching through my Humble Bundle Keys in order to find something worth giving away I found an older key. Game looked short and interesting enough to play through it. But first to something completely different:

  • Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds

    22 hours playtime

    46 of 46 achievements

  • Stories Untold

    6 hours playtime

    13 of 13 achievements

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds: I have completed this game before, twice I think. But over a year ago they added another DLC, which is a good thing I guess. But for achievement hunting it is a bit troublesome :P Nonetheless, as I don’t think that the DLC will get much cheaper in the future I go the Frau DLC during the summer sale and played through the game another time with a new character. Apparently it is a spin-off to a 2d fighting game a la Street Fighter. Never played that one. And Battle Grounds is also more my cup of tea. It is a 2d brawler which you can play online or local with up to four players bashing countless foes (and one boss) in order to complete the stage and level up. Each stage has an own unique design and each character slightly different move sets. All in all it is good fun if you search something to play with a friend. But the game can get kind of repetitive, especially if you want to get all achievements which means multiple replays of the game over and over again. Well, let’s look if it will stay in the completed section this time. ^^ Still have some other games with 100 % in the beaten section because they may get an update later on the road.

Stories Untold: A weird game. Irritating. Slightly spooky in moments. Showing lots of stuff you can’t associate to. Stories Untold is a compilation of four episodes (between 30-90 minutes long, you can’t save) which each episodes telling another story sharing the same main character: James Aition. Most of the time you are sitting in one place and are either adjusting some kind of weird devices or type stuff into a computer. In its core, the game is probably a puzzle game and most puzzles are designed fair. This gives the game a very unique way of telling its story although the single episodes barely contain much story. Spoilers following: The strength from Stories Untold comes from the fourth episode (which may for some also a deal breaker) as it shows how the previous episodes are connected with the climax in the last episode. And there you will understand what those sequences before have been. Although nothing in the game is set in stone. Fiction and facts are mixing up in an intangible net and noone can know for sure what really happened. The final episode shows a rather clear and depressing picture on what happened. But given the fictions aspects besides others the game never tires out to imply additional happenings. As such a completely different interpretation of what has happened is totally possible. It is a game which makes you think if you want to dig in deeper and leaves some interesting room for discussions. Has someone here played the game and thought about it? What is your interpretation of the happenings?

Well, that’s it for the moment. Next I will play two recent bundle games I specifically ordered on Tremor Games. First one I started playing and it is as interesting as I thought. And the second covers a primal interest of me :P After that I may go back to an older game again to further decrease my unfinished or beaten but not completed section.
And since I got a nice bonus on work, I will maybe buy a new PC. Any recommandations for simple good which does not mean lot of work for me? Still feeling unsure. I’m so accustomed to my laptop, but a nice gaming PC might be worthwhile.

And if I’m here anyway: Still looking for some help with some multiplayer games. The most preliment being RE5, the easier parts of boring multiplayer versus achievements. Other than that I could need some help for NMRIH. Still waiting for the 1.10 update and then I may play for a bit of time again to get some more achievements (I’ll never complete this one).

Formidolosus

I can’t really recommend a specific all in one box as I have always just put them together myself, but that is definitely one big advantage of a box versus a laptop, so make sure whatever you choose is something that will let you open it up down the road to change some pieces. Some boxes are essentially just laptop components in a small box, and so upgrading a graphics card or motherboard later on is not an option. Asides from that, what you should look at will obviously depend on your budget, but if you have an upgradeable box you have the advantage of being able to upgrade pieces in the future. I see new egg have some nice pre built boxes which may meet your needs, but you’ll obviously also need to keep in mind that those don’t come with a monitor, so factor that into your budget.

Since I don’t have to much knowledge I would prefer a pre-built solution. But you make a good point about the possibility to swap parts later on. Always had a laptop, so I completely forgot about that one. I took a look at New Egg. While they have one or two which look interesting it seems that they don’t have a german outlet, so it would have to be transported from America which sounds …. suboptimal.

But thanks for the input.

Formidolosus

Yeah it’s definitely the biggest reason I prefer a box solution, and upgrading really isn’t that difficult, but it means you can always do incremental updates. And if a part dies, the whole thing doesn’t become useless.

tsupertsundere

I’d absolutely agree with ‘irritating’ to be a good way to describe Stories Untold.

Congratulations on your bonus! I just (with the help of Formidolosus and Mskotor and other fine people here) picked a new laptop for myself, which ideally should be coming in today. When it does and I get it all set up, I can tell you how I like it.

Adelion

Did you play through the game? Because surficially the game seems to make complete sense. Only in detail it starts to get more irritating again.

Well, it is a company bonus. Everyone working for longer than a year gets it. So nothing special. Wanted to get away from a laptop as all my previous gaming devices had been laptops. Want to try something more decadent now :P
