August 2019 - Mid Month Update

Making okay progress this month.
In my queue, I swapped out Aporia for When Ski Lifts Go Wrong in my queue, as Ski Lifts became my first Playing Appreciated win on SG thanks to the MouseWithBeer šŸšŸŗ
PA requires playing won games within a month. So far they put me at a playing score of 94%, so hopefully Iā€™m on track to 100% it as far as PA is concerned by the time Iā€™ve tried all the levels.

Games I Beat

    911 Operator

    911 Operator

    21 hours playtime

I recommend the game on sale with all DLC if you who wants basic simulation of 911 calls and are ok with micromanaging location/dispatch of emergency vehicles. If you expect an RTS game or advanced simulation, you might have a bad time. I only used ā€œUnique Storiesā€ and custom cities mode since Unique Stories was recommended for a first playthrough and progresses through the different cities. It does some things well and others I wish it did better but nothing that breaks gameplay for me, on Hard difficulty. That doesnā€™t make me eager to play it much more.

    Evolvation

    Evolvation

    4 hours playtime

Basic 6 DOF space fighter with a relatively dead multiplayer community but has decent bots plus thorough tutorials. I loved older 6 DOF games like Descent, but there's nothing to do other than basic pew pew here - Not even a campaign mode, hence why I marked this "beat" as a multiplayer only game. Would not recommend buying unless you have friends to play with who are really into that kind of game.

Games Iā€™ve Been Playing

    Road Redemption

    Road Redemption

    14 hours playtime

Nails the Road Rage vibe and satisfying combat with good progression early to mid game. Roguelite fits okay, but in mid game to get enough XP per run to get meaningful unlocks requires lots of replay of very early levels. So Iā€™ve labelled this as ā€œStuckā€ for now and playing other games instead. Procedural missions & tracks are okay, but dont add a lot to gameplay.

    When Ski Lifts Go Wrong

    When Ski Lifts Go Wrong

    10 hours playtime

Seems like one of the more unique bridge building games available which not only has bridge type building, but also different kinds of ski lifts, in winter & summer. Iā€™m through 60 of the 100 levels. After that I may try some non-expert custom levels available through the workshop. Thereā€™s a good variety of people, who you can sometimes move or control: Snowboarders, snowmobiles, bikes, BMX, etc.

    Quantum Break

    Quantum Break

    7 hours playtime

Made it through Act 2 and got most of the way through the beginning of Act 3. Iā€™m still really enjoying the story while the time effects are getting bigger and weirder. Now for some minor technical gripes: The one time I want to skip an in-game cutscene (not sure if its pre-rendered or not) before a boss-type battle, cutscene skipping results in a loading screen that took just as long as the damn cutscene! That is despite the game being on an SSD and having plenty of RAM & VRAM. Also, I started noticing that the show video between acts isnā€™t great visual quality when it comes to darkest of colors & blacks. Not sure if thatā€™s because the Steam version streams the video instead of downloading it or not? Bandwidth shouldnā€™t be an issue since I have 100mbps down. Streaming via Steam presumably saves ~100 GB of storage compared to non-Steam versions given that the Steam version only takes up 70 GB. I wonder if the streaming is Steam/Valve hosted, or Microsoft hosted? That would suck if Microsoft decommissioned streaming (no different than decommissioning other gamesā€™ hosted online lements) and Steam owners would miss out on the show videos.

Games Still Queued for This Month

First off have fun with PA and secondly your game was already approved. When the background turns to green you are in the clear concerning the playing requirements. This can be set by either a PA admin or the GA creator. Which of course does not mean that you need to stop playing ^_^

And always remember to thank the GA creator, because should you for whatever reason not be able to complete your game on time, you will get a warning from an admin ;)

Good to know since this wasnā€™t in their FAQ, thanks!

No problem. By the way blue means that the GA was unfollowed, which basically means they are not enforcing the rules because e. g. the game might have been also won through a different group or whitelist (if it is a multi group or whitelist GA) and red means that the member who won was kicked due to not following the playing rules (then all GAā€™s that they won and have not yet sufficiently played turn red).

:)

Hmmm I always thought it was pretty intuitive with the green color but I can totally see how it can not be if you only have only won one game and canā€™t see the difference in colors. I will poke Reforced and ask if anything can be done to make it more clear although I donā€™t really have any ideas except maybe adding some ā€œapprovedā€ text somewhere. If you have any I would love to hear them :)

As for the playing score. That one is calculated automatically based on some science fiction looking formula and it can be often times wrong so take it just as a vague suggestion about how much it was played. General rule is that as long as you played half of the game and both the playtime number and achievement number are green it should be fine (it is more specifically described in the FAQ). And if you are ever unsure if some playtime is enough/have any trouble with any game please feel free to contact me!

Yes, thatā€™s me being a noob to winning from PA.

Thanks, that or just something brief in the FAQ would help.

Iā€™m not too worried about it, and I do think the FAQ explained it well.

Ups, wasnā€™t even aware there was such a page for PA. But well, looking good for myself, so all is fine :)

Glad to see youā€™re making progress on QB, althoughā€¦ itā€™s a shame youā€™re having technical problems. Canā€™t recall having had any. So that sucks :(
Hope you can still enjoy the rest of it :)
