ABC Challenge 2018-2019: Zeno Clash

There’s no better way to end the year than clearing another game from your backlog and finishing your ABC Challenge (even though I was a few hours too late ^^;)

If I had to describe the game in one word it’d be “bizarre”. While the story is a fairly simple the way it unfolds, together with the overall design of the world and the characters make it for a very surreal experience. Using a first-person perspective in a game that’s mainly a fighting game adds to its uniqueness, though I have to say I love-hate the auto-lock functionality (thank god it can be turned off). Sometimes it helped me a lot but it was a pain to deal with when fighting against multiple enemies in a tight corridor and you need to disengage fast.
Another pet-peeve of mine (albeit a minor one) was the lack of subtitles, especially when the game was made by spanish-speaking developers. Some of the characters talked in a way that was hard to tell what they were saying.
All in all I liked it enough to feel like playing the second installment (though I hope this one has a less abrupt ending).

Last but not least, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Yes, combat was really awkward because it comes down to “made for 1v1, have to turn every encounter into 1v1” kind of deal so you end up fooling around with enemies and trying to game positioning/pathfinding for it work. Really rare case of weird fantasy I’d like to see more of, though.

Happy New Year back at you. :D
