Well it's been a tough month for me and my family, so I'm glad to see the back of it. For some reason though I actually finished more games than I'd anticipated, I guess they were a good distraction for me. So with 3 months to go in this year, I only need 14 more games beaten to reach my goal of 100. So that's something I guess? I will maybe try and pick up one of my longer games again in an effort to finish off the year with something big. Don't know what yet

On a more personal front, my wife and I are expecting our third (and final!) child. It was something we'd both wanted in the past and it felt like the right time. Good news is that it looks like it's a girl, which would make it the first girl grandchild on both sides of our family. It's going to be quite different from raising boys, but I'm sure me and my daughter will find some games we can enjoy together.

“Wake me when it’s over”, I was so very tempted to make this joke in my post, I salute your resolve to follow through with it ;_;7 . How was Quantum Break? It’s been a game I have wanted to try out, but never heard enough to follow through with it.

Formidolosus

Haha well it just seemed to fit, being as we had a bit of a rough month, but things are definitely improving now.
Yeah quantum break is good, but relatively short. It’s made by the same guy who made the original Max payne and Alan wake, and he’s always got good ideas, so the gameplay is interesting, and I think it probably overreached in it’s grand concept to take video games to the next level, but it is definitely worth a play, especially if you get it cheaper.

congratz on all those games completed and congratz and good luck on another child. ive never had to deal with my own child but i grew up with a lot of younger siblings and family and they were a pain to deal with normally. sometimes when i babysat younger kids they were better behaved but at the same time had to deal with alot of crying from wheres my mummy? hopefully your child is nice and peaceful and not a troublemaker

Formidolosus

Yeah, I’m an older sibling as well, and had to look after the younger ones a fair amount growing up, but is different when it’s your own kids. My wife and I make a good team, so I think having someone to back you up makes it a lot easier. We’re used to a bit of chaos with 2 boys, so maybe a girl will be a change of pace.

Cece09

i grew up with 2 younger brothers and had an older brother who i hadnt seen since they got put in care. they were a pain enough and then suddenly their dad got with someone and i ended up with 3 sisters all younger still and then they had a baby. went from just brothers to having 3 sisters and then gradually another baby making 4 sisters. no matter where ive ended up living its always with some sort of younger kid like my last home had my aunt who was 3. so typically being old enough I was stuck babysitting them all! as i put before they tend to be better behaved without the adults but once the adults return they go into their devilish ways

Formidolosus

Wow sounds like you’ve had it rough growing up, I’m genuinely sorry to hear that! It’s not fair when you have too much responsibility put on you from a young age.

Cece09

well it was only really me and brothers it wasnt until i was 15 i dealt with girls being brought in and not until i was 17 for aunt. I didnt think it was really that bad when I was a kid, my school teachers brought in someone who thought I was a young carer which wasnt really true when I was younger then 10 it always did confuse me but hey they gave me free stuff I couldnt deny it for that and the fact i didnt know what was going on XD

Congratulations to you & your wife!
On a more game related note, your thoughts on Quantum Break are intriguing, now I really want to get around to playing it. I didn’t realize it had big actors. I’ll get to it eventually. Oh the problems of having a big backlog…

Formidolosus

Oh it’s not huge actors, but you’ll recognise littlefinger from game of thrones, merry from lord of the rings and Iceman from X men probably. So it’s cool to have recognisable actors doing a game that isn’t just a movie tie in. I’d love to see more games trying things like this. I know netflix has plans to make a ‘choose your own story’ episode of black mirror some time, and it would great if there was more intersection between games and traditional entertainment, as I think both could benefit from the strengths of each other. Traditional media usually has better writing and acting because that’s where the money is, but games have interactivity and immersion, and so I think Quantum break is a great demonstration of how it might look when those two are merged together.

Congratulations on another child! I hope the pregnancy is a safe and easy one. I hope the troubles your family is facing ease soon.

I don’t know how different raising a girl will be for you both but I’m sure you can’t go wrong by raising all three of your children so they know how to respect others as well as themselves. I always love it when parents on BLAEO talk about gaming with their children, so I’m excited for that both far-off and too-soon day when you begin sharing it with her, too.

Formidolosus

Ahh thanks so much. Yeah it was just one of those months, where it felt like bad things line up all at the same time. But then other months good things line up, so it’s all ok. And yes I look forward to meeting this new little person. It’s funny how as parents you slowly meet the person inside the child, and realise your job is not to make them into a reflection of yourself but rather help them to be the best version of themselves that they can be. So respect for others is definitely something we value, as I think there’s not enough of it around.
I hope she enjoys gaming, but if she’s more a classic princesses and horses girl I might need to adjust. :-)

tsupertsundere

You’re very welcome. Oh, yeah, I’ve been there. But the wheel keeps turning and good times come again. They’ll come soon!
I think that’s a wonderful perspective to have! Hear, hear!
And don’t worry - there are a lot of princessy and horsey games now, and there will be even more by the time she can play them!
Cheers, my friend!
