As predicted last month, after going crazy in March, I did dial it back a bit this month and have been focussing on some more grindy games. There were still a few short little games thrown into the mix, as they make great coffee break games. In addition to the ones I beat I also spent a lot of time playing civilization V and company of heroes 2, both games I'm probably never going to finish, but being as I'd only ever earned like 5% of the achievements for both of them, I decided that I should at least play through what I could and lift the drag on my game completion a bit. So far I've got them both to over 20%, and I think once they're over 50% I'll consider them 'beaten'.

One interesting milestone I reached this month was a 2 year achievement streak. It would have been about 60 days longer, but we went away on holiday with my wife's parents. And they are coming again in August, soooo I guess that will be when my current streak ends. Oh well

I think May will also be a quieter month, as my 100 game goal is still well within reach.

Glad that you liked ‘Orwell’. It’s one of my favourite games I’ve played last year.

It’s really sad that ‘Agents of Mayhem’ turned out to be not really good. I haven’t played it, but I’ve almost never heard anything good about it. I really like SR, so I was initially pretty excited about another game from the same devs. I feel like there is a constant decline in their games since ‘Saints Row 3’. Did you play any of the SR games?

Lastly, I’m also glad that you liked ‘Space Pilgrim’ so far. I think it’s a great little game (not perfect, of course, but how many games are perfect, really?), but I’ve seen quite some people disliking it. I hope you enjoy the other parts as well, should you try them.

Good luck with your 100 game goal, seems like it’s easily within reach :) And I’m a bit jealous!

I have played and loved Saints row 3 and IV. 3 was definitely the pinnacle and the most coherent story, but I enjoyed the silliness of IV as well. I was really hoping agents of mayhem would be similar, just a fun time running around the city and gaining super powers. But I don’t even know what they were thinking in the end. There was a lot of ‘unlocks’ but zero sense of progression and you literally just do the same thing for 30 - 40 hours.

And yes I do enjoy a wide variety of game types and I appreciate that little games like Space pilgrim can be fun. Not overly ambitious, but it does the job well, so why not appreciate that in a time where we are drowning in rubbish?

Congrats on the progress! It’s sad your review of Agent of Mayhem meets all i was fearing about the game :( I wish they’d make another saints rows game, but then again even that series has been getting a bit boring in the last iteration :(

Yeah I think what it boils down to in essence is that there’s never a feeling of progression. Unlike the Saints row games, where you’re always getting new weapons and powers, and it keeps you engaged in the game. In AoM there are unlocks but they don’t really do much dramatic, like a small percentage increase to damage on ‘dazed’ enemies or something similar ripped from a loot based RPG. And the city has a lot of verticality so I was really hoping they would unlock a method of flying, but it never came, just the triple jump which is unlocked from the start and the only vehicles are cars which all looks so similar. Nothing crazy despite the fact it’s set in a cartoony world. I get that they didn’t want it to be a saints row game, but if anything the world they built needed some of that craziness.
I do still think they could make another good Saints Row game though. Imagine if they continued on with the ideas shown in the credits at the end of IV, where the Saints travel in time. The series is known for it’s satire and silliness, so can you imagine how much fun they’d have in a ‘historical’ setting. It’ll take more than agents of mayhem to kill my interest in volition, especially when there’s talk of red faction being revived.

EvilBlackSheep

I think that would be a great idea for a Saints Row 5. I didn’t enjoy Gat out of Hell that much, but 4 was okay (I liked 3 more, but still). I just wish they’d return to that (I’m not sure if there is any SR game in the works or not)

Its too late now for the first one but if you are ever gonna play the 2nd Alice’s Patchwork the best way to do the levels is to start the level -> turn off the time limit -> place all pieces but one -> turn back on the time limit -> place last piece. This way you get the bonus score (and achievements) without having to worry about the time.

Formidolosus

Oooo sneaky, I like it! thanks for the tip.

MouseWithBeer

It saved me a lot of headaches so always happy to share it :)

Formidolosus

Yeah basically I think the only way you can do it otherwise is to learn the whole puzzle basically by heart and then do it from memory.
