Update 8 March

Progress on my book-game challenge:

  • Playne: The Meditation Game
    Playne: The Meditation Game

    2 hours playtime

    5 of 40 achievements

This has been a really nice change of pace so far. I’ve been keeping notes for my wrap-up post on how my progress on Playne has been making me feel. While I was unsure at first about this type of “game,” I’ve settled into having this be a part of my evening routine fairly well.

As far as the book, I’ve gotten two chapters in and so far there’s only been a small bit of suggestions applicable for me personally. Will jot notes down for what I do try out.

As an FYI: previous months’ book-game wrap-ups are linked on my profile page if you’re interested.

BLAEO Monthly Theme pick:

  • Tomb Raider
    Tomb Raider

    11.6 hours playtime

    6 of 50 achievements

Been a fun ride so far, just as I expected it to be!

Otherwise played this week:

  • Conan Exiles
    Conan Exiles

    210 hours playtime

    25 of 25 achievements

  • Mountain
    Mountain

    32.9 hours playtime

    19 of 31 achievements

I think we’ve said our goodbyes to the Hyborian Age, and I’ll be shuttering my private server this month on Conan Exiles. It’s been fun, but there’s thousands of other worlds to see and experience.

I haven’t loaded up Mountain since last year, and one night when I was pretty fatigued I just plinked at getting a couple more achievements. I had no idea at all that the devs had overhauled the game and updated it in the interim - it looks a lot nicer!

Have a great weekend!

Did you played alone on your Conan server? How hard is it to set up?

Trav

I played together with a good gaming friend. Having a server was easier for us than playing co-op because she could play whenever she wanted without me being online.

It was very easy to set up as I just used GPortal as linked by the game. Followed the website walkthrough, added the mods we wanted, changed the server settings to how we wanted them (XP, harvesting etc), and gave my friend full access to do whatever she wanted. Now that we’re quitting (for now), I DL’d the server files through the FTP access and am keeping them safe in case we ever want to go back and check out new content.

I will say to be careful of what mods you choose to add, because if you try to remove them later they can mess up your server files which can be hard to fix without wiping your server.

Ah, thanks for the info :D And how was it, was the game intented to play solo or with just 2 people? And can you still get achievements on your own server? I’m not sure when I’m gonna play it and when I do, how things are gonna be with community, servers etc.

Trav

For me, I think the game is more fun if you play with people. Some of the world bosses and dungeons are balanced for groups, so if you’re solo you’ll have to wait until you’re a total beast at max level with top tier gear to complete them. But if you just want to build things and explore, solo play is doable and you can do whatever you want to your savegame like mod it however you like.

You can get achievements on a server, but to 100% them you do need at least one person to help you do a PVP one (just killing someone by jumping on them while overencumbered, takes only a minute if you’ve got a friend to help.)

I can’t suggest communities, sorry! Every server is its own world and I just played with my friend. But you can always just keep trying servers out until you find one that you like. Here’s a website that shows server rankings: https://topconanservers.com/
