Outlast 2

This is my latest SG win and probably the first horror game that I have played where enemies can kill you but you can’t fight them back. Let me tell you right away that I don’t think I’ll ever play this type of game again. The gameplay is annoying and sometimes infuriating (maybe I should have just started the game on the easier difficulty instead of starting it on hard, but by the time things got frustrating I have already beaten half the game so I didn’t want to lower it).

While I didn’t enjoy the gameplay that much, I did find the story interesting and wanted to finish it because of that. But in the end I got disappointed with the last chapter and the ending. All things considered, I don’t regret playing it, but I do wish it was better in some parts both when it came to gameplay and the story.

I got this game for free on Fanatical about two years ago. I didn’t think it’d be any good so I just idled it for cards back then and didn’t even bother trying the game.
However since I’ve seen Blue Ϟ Lightning and stef gave it some praise in their posts here I decided I’ll give it a try and see what’s it about.

The game is a psychological horror (it’s not scary at all though) with some surreal elements about a man named Price who just started working for a company where his job is to seize peoples properties. Price doesn’t enjoy the job for obvious reasons and he starts to hallucinate and have nightmares as his mental state deteriorates due to not being able to deal with the moral issues regarding what he does for a living.

I really liked the game. The story was interesting, gameplay was simple and straightforward and the ending was a lot more interesting than I thought it’ll be. I’m definitely very glad I played this game, so thanks to the before-mentioned folks who recommended it. As soon as I have beaten this game I went on Steam and wishlisted the sequel.

Glad you liked Distraint! I haven’t played Outlast 2 yet but I didn’t like the ending of the first game. If this one also has an unsatisfying ending, I might just pass.

When I mentioned I’m playing Outlast 2 in one discord server I hang around in, everyone who played both told me that the first one was a lot better game. Apparently the story was more understandable and the stealth was better as well in the first one.

One of the problems in Outlast 2 is that stealth is not perfect, sometimes you just get find out by enemies for no apparent reason. Hide in the barrel and wait for enemy to get past, but all of a sudden the enemy runs towards the barrel, pulls you out and kills you. Hide under the bed, enemy enters the house, looks under the bed, pulls you out and kills you. There were more cases where stealth just failed, so I ended up relying on running away more, which resulted in a lot of chase moments which weren’t very enjoyable in some of the open areas of the game because sometimes it’s hard to know where exactly you have to go to progress further and trying to figure that out while you have bunch of crazies running after you with machetes sure isn’t fun lol.
I ended up looking where to go next in walkthrough in some cases just to make some of the chase sections less of a pain in the ass.

Man, now I want Distraint even more.
I understand what you mean about Outlast. I haven’t gotten to the second, and I’m only part way through the first. It’s next on my ‘I should really get back to this abandoned game’ list (which at the moment exists solely in my head). I’ll probably restart it since it’s been so long.
