Report #206: DreadOut: Keepers of The Dark

Different kind of horror game

And another game beaten. This one has been on my list for quite a while. Bought it 2017 during a sale, installed with multiple times, but because the game hardly gives you any hints on what to actually do, I dropped it quite often. But then I sat down, read through the first parts of a walkthrough and decided to give it a try.

Was quite nice, but I am not sure, if horror is the best genre for me. There are jump scares and the controls are bit sloppy.

But overall, with the help of the walkthrough, I managed to get all achievements in one playthrough

Reminds me I have to check this game out. I enjoyed the Fatal Frame games back on the PS2. DreadOut was heavily inspired by them, and Fatal Frame didn’t hold your hand in terms of where to go either. So I guess have to see how DreadOut compare to the Fatal Frame series.

Many would consider a clunky control scheme to be a part of the experience of playing a horror game, at least for the survival horror titles. Giving too much concession in control can reduce the scariness. Personally I don’t mind clunky controls as long as they are done well.

Did you play DreadOut before? Because otherwise … yea … Keepers of the Dark is even more confusing. And it already confusing if you know AND understand what happened in the main game. Still, I liked the DreadOut games.

No I haven’t. I already guessed that it would have been better to play the main game first.
