Update 4 : February 2019
Another month over and here is the list of games I played this month :
This Visual Novel is one of the worst games I've ever played. Basically just some text that you have to read and that's it. The story is not really interesting and the visuals are mostly consisting of a few backgrounds where the text is diplayed. If you reach the end all achievements are given at once.
I absolutely not recommend this game.
I had to play two Playing Appreciated wins this month. I enjoyed both mostly:
I really enjoyed this game. I played through all the campains. They are all different enough so that it does not get boring. It can take a bit getting used to that you cannot control your heroes, but the concept is really interesting. You have to plant flags and give money to the flags in order to attract the heroes.
This game is full of glitches. Walls where you can walk through, rails that do not hold you, the camera is glitchy too. I fell over the edges so many times, it isn't funny anymore. Maybe I'm just too old to enjoy a game like this. I remember playing Sonic on the Dreamcast when I was a child and I really enjoyed it. Maybe my expectations have just grown and I want more from a game nowadays.
I stopped playing when I reached the end boss and could not finish one round of attacks and always fell down.
I also played all my Play or Pay choices:
Absolutely loved the game. In my opinion it's a mix of a hidden object game and a point and click adventure with a nice story and some nice plot twists. If you like HOG with a bit of story then I recommend this game.
I really liked the game, though keeping your own notebook is greatly advised. Otherwise, you will definitely loose track of some clues.
The game basically consists of walking through the abandoned town of Painscreek and trying to find clues on who killed a woman five years prior. You will find that out by finding keys, newsletter articles and diaries of all the people involved (and there are a lot of people involved, so definitely keep your own notes). Some riddles are easy others are more difficult, but if you get stuck, simply visit the discussion forums on steam. You will get help there.
Some things I didn't really like:
- The music is on an endless loop and to be honest after several hours it is nerve wracking. Some variety would be better.
- You keep an ingame journal (and a camera), but nothing that can keep track of all the different people. Would have been great if something like a character tree would have been implemented or an option to keep your own notes ingame
- Why are packed cartons in every house? If the inhabitants left, why did they not take their stuff with them. I can understand it that you might leave a thing or two, but it looked more like people were evacuated then if they actually simply had left the town.
I'm a bit on the fence about the ending. It was completely different to the rest of the game.
It's a decent platformer, though the camera is glitchy at least on PC. This makes gameplay really hard sometimes. Also the open world concept was not really my cup of tea. There is no real red line to follow and in order to find everything it takes ages. Sometimes the challenges to get the pagies are easy as cake and others are so hard that it took me 30 minutes just for one little pagie and for some I've simply given up. Also the Kartos mine cart challenge in world 4 is crazy and you have to defeat it in order for the boss to appear.
It took me also 6 hours to defeat the final boss. It has 4 stages and if you die you have to start all over again. A savepoint after the third stage would have been really helpful.
Other games I finished :
I'm a fan of games like this and this one was really great. The game consists of different game modes in eleven stages. A normal mode, where you have to dismantle the queue, a puzzle mode, where you have to dismantle the queues with a certain number of stones, a mode, where the queues grow again and again and you have to dismantle a certain queue at the top, a mode, where suddenly stones appear in the path and the queue changes direction.
All these different modes bring great variety into the game. Also, the special game pieces are very nice.
Interesting game. I wish the controlls were better. The different scenarios are nice, but the clunky controlls are really getting to you and make the game harder than it has to be.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to play more of :
Maybe I will have more time next month.
I was also really lucky this last week and won a bunch of games on Steamgifts:
- Alpha Protocol
- Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Sanctum 2
- Stories: The Path of Destinies
I will probably play some of them next month, but have not decided which.
The Painscreek Killings really sounds like an interesting game, I’m more and more curious about it. Congrats on the nice progress with your backlog.
I can fully recommend it. And thank you. I do try to decrease it, but somehow it is still growing XD
But at least I’m starting to fight back :)
Just keep playing and having fun, in the end that’s what matters ;)
Yeah, that’s what I’m trying to do. Steadily fighting back. Already on 3 beaten/completed games this month and working on the forth XD
Hi there! I was going to approve your request to join the Steam group, but I can’t see your name in the pending requests, only in the Steam Group Membership thread. Can you click the request to join button as well, please?
Ooh, haven’t heard of The Painscreek Killings but that sounds right up my alley! Definitely adding that to my ever growing wishlist.
EDIT: Ah I see I already had it in my wishlist but I completely forgot about it. Thanks for the review though!
You are welcome :) I can definetly recommend it.
