The ABC Screenshot challenge!

A new year demands a new community challenge! This challenge is a mix of the old scavenger hunt theme and Blue’s ABC challenge.
I’d like to thank a lot of people for the ideas, especially Blue and Ninglor.

How does it work?

  • There is no set game list, run the games that you believe that will give you the best chance of getting an amazing screenshot
  • There are 26 letters, so you’ll have to take at least 26 pictures. Each one should feature something started with a different letter.

You can use this as a template to post your screenshots
[A](screenshot) | [B](screenshot) | [C](screenshot) | [D](screenshot) | [E](screenshot) | [F](screenshot)
[G](screenshot) | [H](screenshot) | [I](screenshot) | [J](screenshot) | [K](screenshot) | [L](screenshot)
[M](screenshot) | [N](screenshot) | [O](screenshot) | [P](screenshot) | [Q](screenshot) | [R](screenshot)
[S](screenshot) | [T](screenshot) | [U](screenshot) | [V](screenshot) | [W](screenshot) | [X](screenshot)
[Y](screenshot) | [Z](screenshot)

Create your own theme! (optional)

If you think the challenge above is too easy for you, you may create your own theme. A theme that all pictures will have to follow.
Examples:

  • A blue theme: All pictures will feature something blue or blue will be their main color
  • An animal theme: There will be a different animal in each screenshot, corresponding to each letter - Rat, Zebra, Lion, etc
  • Winter theme: Santa, Pine cone, Gingerbread, etc

You get the idea. Be creative. Create your own challange!

FAQ:

Can I used games that I already played before?
Sure. It’s all about being creative! It’s not an official theme, there are no “rules”.

I have another question!
Which part of no rules, did you not understand?! xD But seriously, whatever work best for you!

uguleley

Honestly, I should have just played it on wuss mode - or whatever it’s called - because the monsters didn’t scare me. They were just a nuisance.

Same here. I went on normal about halfway and then got tired of the hide n’ seek game, rest of the playthrough was much better without it. The game didn’t let you change difficulty mode mid-save, but there were still old mods around. After the fix the monsters could only give me really excited hug attacks. :D

I think a GOTY nomination itself is a big recognition for an indie game like Celeste, but most likely the award will go to one of the big publisher titles.

LastM

I don’t expect them to win, but I’d really like for that to happen. I didn’t know about mods. I should have searched in the workshop. I almost restarted the game just to swap to safe mode. :/

Fnord

I agree about Hearts of Stone. While both DLCs were well worth the asking price, Hearts of Stone had a better story. But I think Blood & Wine stands out a bit more to people, as Hearts of Stone just feels like another big side-quest in the main game, while Blood & Wine feels like a separate thing.

pedro

Yes, i prefer B&W because is giant with a lot of new things. I had the same feeling playing HoS, its short if you compare it with B&W.

LastM

I tried to care about the princesses, but they were just spoiled brats. I tried to care about the vampire, but he was just a 100yo angry teen. HoS, on the other hand, had some amazing real, grey characters. At the end, I was hoping that Von Everec and his wife could have some kind of happy ending. T_T
The scenery from B&W was superb though.

pedro

HoS is more darker than B&W, and in the geralts universe there arent happy endings :)

LastM

One can dream. T_T

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I absolutely love the fairytale land of B&W and the even darker twist on the fairytales… Like oh hey look grim fairytale are none Disneyized but the witcher managed to make them even darker somehow

robilar5500

Yeah, wuss mode seems the definite way to go for SOMA.

EvilBlackSheep

Go watch Food Wars. Also all the Ghibli movies you haven’t seen yet. Should keep you occupied for a while :3

LastM

Thanks. It looks fun.

malabagaa

oh, MAL is finally working again!
they had some issues with their db and you couldn’t keep track of anything, nor see your lists. it has been like for so long that I had lost my hopes to see it working again and slowly forgot to check again.
thanks for the info! ^_^

ps: I can send you a requet but I mostly read manga, don’t know if that’s a problem for you..

LastM

That would be great. I need manga recommendations as well.
edit: I found a link on your profile and sent you a friends request. :)

malabagaa

Just seen that! and accepted, of course =P

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I thought MAL had a problem with its APIs/security and they had to rewrite a whole bunch of stuff… Not sure exactly what was wrong but I do know some sites like 9anime were letting you ‘log into” MAL And then automatically updated stuff as you watched them for each episode… Dont know if MAL approved

malabagaa

oh, it could be.. it’s been a while since I last read their announcement, so I could be mistaking :)

ps: sent a request to you too =P

I watched a playthrough of Soma because I thought it would be scary like Amnesia which I couldn’t handle playing, I really regreted it because it wasn’t really scary and the story would have been amazing to experience myself. I love stories about existentialism and the atmosphere is great, really a shame.

I’m also more of a manga reader than anime watcher but there are a few animes I definitely recommend:

_Fullmetal Alchemist: both the original series and Brotherhood. The 2009 anime diverge from the original manga and have its own ending while Brotherhood follows the manga more closely. I have watched both and they are both good, and they have very different tone (the manga and Brotherhood is more shounen action while 2009 anime is more tragedy). You should definitely check the manga out too, one of the best written manga I’ve read.

_Puella Magi Madoka Magica: don’t look up anything about it! One of the best original anime, beautiful visual, lovely soundtrack and wonderfully written story. It has some twists that really work best if you don’t know about, which is pretty hard because of how popular the anime is.

_Baccano!: an anime about immortal mafia gangsters, wacky criminals and train ghosts. it’s full of crazy and unique characters. Very fun and chaotic, Durarara written by the same author is pretty great too.

_Mushishi: beautiful episodic anime about supernatural lifeforms and their interactions with humans, beautiful and melancholic with some seriously heartbreaking stories. The manga is good too but the anime’s visual and audio takes it to a new level.

_Hoozuki no Reitetsu: this one is pretty weird and I imagine would be hard to get into for some people. It’s about bureaucratic life in Japanese Buddish Hell, it has lots of jokes that I think people not familiar with Japanese media may not get. I find the humor very good, and I love the sadistic but effecient protagonist.

I have manga recs too I you want (for example, everything by Naoki Urasawa) but this is probably getting way too long already :P.

Blue Ϟ Lightning

+1 for baccano gdam its not a masterpiece but I love it so much (on my top 10) and it’s stood the test of time.

Something I want to add is I actually really like the dub of it.
There’s very few anime I prefer the dub to but because of it’s american atmosphere and the old fashioned accents I like it…

SOMA was amazing I’m a total wuss with horror (I just noped out of my challenge me for outlast) but I really enjoyed playing soma and it’s atmosphere and story. Monsters were creepy but not too scary

LastM

I also do that for really scary games. I usually try them for an hour, if I’m to scared to play, I just watch it on youtube. xD
I’ve already seen both FMA. It’s one of my favorites. Immortal mafia gangsters sounds awesome. Mushishi sounds really interesting as well. Thanks for the suggestions!
Well, I’d love some manga recommendation as well. If you have a MAL acc and don’t mind, I’d like to add more people in order to look at their lists and find new stuff, instead of asking and bothering them. xD

msboring27

Sorry for the late reply, I was but moving. I don’t use MAL because I thought it was for anime watchers, I did not know it covers manga too. I see you have added some mangas to your MAL lists, here’s some titles that I think is worth checking out:

_Aside from Monster other works of Naoki Urasawa are all pretty good. Pluto, 20th Century Boys and Billy Bat are all good and worth checking out.

_Dorohedoro have a very unique style and sense of humor. It’s fairly gory though not too much for me, maybe stay away if you can’t take blood and body horror.

_+Anima is a fairly obscure series but very good, about people with animal features and power. I like how it deals with themes like discrimination even though the art style is pretty childish.
_Pandora Hearts is one of my favourite series, very beautiful with a great story and amazing twists. The ending is a bit underwhelming but also pretty satisfying.

_Dungeon Meshi is about exploring dungeons and cooking monsters. It’s very unique with great monster designs and worldbuilding, and the recipes actually sound very delicious.

_Golden Kamuy is a masterpiece; it has great knowledge about Ainu culture, awesome fight scenes, food porn and crazy psychopathic badasses. Also lots of naked dudes and great sense of humour. Check it out, you won’t regret it. (I heard the anime is a pretty good adaptation if you overlook the terrible CGI bear).

LastM

I just start reading manga and MAL is great for mangas as well! Thanks a lot for the suggestions! :)

Mskotor

And Baccano has only 13 episodes. So I may try it.

Thanks! :D

Blue Ϟ Lightning

I haven’t really watched a lot of anime in years specifically the only stuff I’ve watched the past 2-3 years has been with friends/rewatching.

(Sorry for formatting on phone)
General recommendations would be +1 for baccano

Stein’s;gate:
Starts slow but really picks up after the half way point

A few dramas
Mawaru penguindrum:
lovely story about fate

Kokoro connect:
maybe more childish and melodramatic but I liked it

Welcome to the NHK:
Is a story about conspiracies but mainly just about a shut in and deals with alot of darker themes like suicide and depression

In terms of gore/horror
Higurashi:
I really liked both seasons and while there’s the VN on steam and you could go that route some parts I prefer the anime for.

In terms of action/shonun
Tengan toppa Guren Lagan:
is really fun/the only mecha I like it’s just light and fun.

If you want to really watch a long series then
Hunter X Hunter:
Is the absolute best :3 like I like it way more than the other shonun series youve seen (bleach/naruto etc)

Other than that if you have specific genres you like feel free to mention it I can give more recommendations any time \o/

LastM

HunterxHunter is one of my favorites. Stein’s gate is on my list to watch. I never heard about the rest. Thanks for the suggestions! o/
ps: I accepted the request. :)

How did you like Inuyasha? I was watching it around time when I get my 1st phone. And I picked Owarinai Yume as my alarm clock. It’s still my alarm clock after like 10 years :D

Osuwari!

Inuyasha was one of the first animes that I watched. I love most of its openings (I Want To Change The World or whatever it’s called in english is still my favorite), but I don’t know the original lyrics because I used to watch it on tv and they would always create their own version in portuguese, while keeping the same beat.

I also use a song from an anime as my alarm clock. It’s from Street fighter The anime, not the game. It’s actually really good, btw. :3
