Monthly Update #13: May

The month of working on SteamGift wins! (And not beating/completing much at all :P)

So this month I wanted to work on some of my SteamGift wins - notably INSIDE and A Plague Tale: Innocence. Loved both these games!

I started Dead Man's Draw, another win, while doing online chat for work, as it's been an easily pick up/drop style game so I can pause when needed. Pretty engaging card game, although some of the RNG of the hands can get really annoying.

I also decided to start Shadow Warrior - I had won Shadow Warrior 2 the other month, then a friend said I had to play the first game first, so I was gifted that. So technically it's working towards completing my wins? :P I have rage quit the game several times however. Once due to a bug where it wouldn't let me progress due to an enemy stuck in a wall, the second time which has been the latest I died after kiting these monsters around for like 20 minutes. I've noticed the game has a lot of bullet-sponge enemies, and sometimes when you run out of ammo you are pretty screwed. I'm only doing it on Normal, and the difficulty is really weird - a lot of the time I breeze past sections, then other times like here I die to only 2 enemies hah. I would actually prefer if most the game had focused on using the Katana, rather than needing guns for a lot of it.

Success of the month is managing to get Borderlands 3 and Jackbox Party Pack 6 from GreenManGaming's Wheel of Mystery! I originally pulled Mortal Kombat 11 and traded it for BL3 as I've never enjoyed fighters. I also managed to trade away a Humble Monthly game for Jackbox. So pretty happy with how that turned out :D

Enjoyable game! I think I have to replay the entire game to get the achievements I missed so I'll probably come back to it later to finish them.

Some random comments on the game:
• The dog :(
• Photo mode is awesome
--Photo mode was pretty much used to take shots of dead bodies…..
--- I paused the game multiple times to take artistic dead body shots. What has this game done to me…
• The rats squeaking really gross me out.
• Rats evolved into tornadoes(?) (RatNADO)

I streamed a couple of parts to friends on discord while playing. One has added the game to her wishlist, and the rest did get some entertainment out of me trying to play with the bare minimum of stealth and going full Rambo (when possible).

I recommend the game, but do be warned if you can't take depressing scenery, a helluva lot of dead bodies and if you are rat-phobic, this is not the game for you.

If anyone read this expecting a basic plot overview, sorry! :P

More backlog, as per usual!

I did end up deleting 13 games from my library I know I either won't play or tried and hated, so there is that at least before I added more? :P I'll probably do a more in-depth deletion of games I know I won't play soon. (I got rid of all those UBERMOSH games for example. I tried one and absolutely hated it haha)

Lucky you! I got HITMAN 2 which I already have. I’ll probably keep it for the gold upgrade though since I have the basic edition.
I’ve actually been thinking of picking Shadow Warrior up again. I’m not encouraged by your issues with the difficulty though. Do you know if it’s possible to turn down the difficulty later? Or are you stuck at whatever difficulty you choose?
I keep going back and forth on whether or not I want Plague Tale. Overall how depressing did you find it? That’s my fear, I rarely enjoy depressing games.

Aww that sucks you got it again. At least you can use it for the upgrade? Or it goes for a fair amount of CV the gold edition on Steamgifts :P If I got it I probably would have tried to trade/gift it as I already have Gold edition…

I’m actually really enjoying Shadow Warrior, and I’m not usually a slice and dice game player. I’m not sure about the difficulty. The game does have console commands, so maybe that can help? I’ve used that to remove the UI and weapons so I can take screenshots haha. I think it’s frustrating in parts because it does feel like you have these hard normal style battles where you can flick between your sword and guns which are fun, then you just have these ‘boss’ battles where you essentially kite forever and just shoot continuously which is not what I consider fun.

Hmmmm. In A Plague Tale, I find the environment and the history behind it all pretty depressing (and kind of relevant with COVID lol), but the story is OK. Nothing really depressing outside of normal storylines. Again, I tend to play farming games and I’ve had no problem with it :) Depends on if you can stand walking your character through fields of dead bodies…. :S The worst graphics I think I documented in my screenshots on Steam honestly hah

RikkiUW

Yeah I thought about giving it away, but apparently the last part of the story is in one of the DLC missions. As much as the game isn’t really heavily story oriented, I still like experiencing it.

Yeah I agree, the katana is fun, it’d be nice to be able to use it in boss battles too.

That’s good to know. May be worth getting then. I’ll probably just wait until it’s bundled though :P.

Jaded

Hmm yeah if you want to play the DLC may as well keep the game!

I have a feeling A Plague Tale might be in a bundle soon… Maybe! Or it might still be on Gamepass as well hah

adil

You got BL3 by giving MK11? Wow, that’s one lucky trade!

And I recently finished A Plague Tale: Innocence too! What a story and adventure! I didn’t find the game too depressing. Though some part were quite sad yeah but overall I kinda enjoyed the journey.

I know right! The person already had BL3 though, so I think they figured it was easier to trade for a game that they then get the coupon for. I had previously gotten an Epic coupon on the Wheel for BL3 and had traded it through GMG so evens out I guess haha

Yeah I really enjoyed it! I do feel as if the environment is pretty depressing though if you aren’t expecting it - which you would assume people would as it’s based on a Plague…

I thought you finished more than 2 games, for some reason. I remember seeing you play a lot of different games towards the end of the month… maybe I got confused with someone else though.

Are you playing “Glass Masquerade 2” in all hard mode? I was playing it in easy, but I decided to give a chance to the hard ones and they’re really time consuming lol.

And for a change, I’m not really interested in any of your new additions… weird. :D

Haha yeah I didn’t finish many - I also tried a few games, all under an hour such as:

RAD - think it was interesting, just need to be in the mood to play it
Broforce - started playing with friends. Absolutely hated it haha. I sucked and was dead most of the small amount of time I played so I maaaaay have rage quit bahahaha
Hiveswap - Got distracted from this. Didn’t really hold my attention
Jurassic World Evolution - I need so many tutorials. Looked really nice. Just know it will require so much time to understand everything I kind of gave up.
Black Book: Prologue - Pretty interesting - I wouldnt mind playing the game when it comes out.

Terraria - logged in to re-100% it. I don’t really count it as a completion though as it just required me to create a workbench lol

Yes I’ve only been playing GM2 in hard mode, so yeah it’s a bit of a time sink!

Yeah I think it’s not really the kind of backlog additions I usually add. I think HB Choice has been a bit strategy/management focused, so I’m hoping next month is less so, otherwise I might actually pause it. I have too many management style games already :P

I’m hoping this month is better completion/beating games wise. I need to go back to Shadow Warrior after rage quitting after dying lol. I was streaming to a friend at the time and even he was like that was BS hahahaha
