This week has been pretty rough on me... there is a realization that one of my close friends is also in a rough spot as their newborn is in a rough spot and/or something really terrible has occured as he is shutting himself out of the real world. On top of that one of my other good friends in the last month has stopped talking to me all together due to issues at my wedding. This is where my head was focused early in the week as I emote other's emotions and it left me in a bit of a funk. And then comes, Wednesday. Had a great day, spent the evening with an old friend at a new restaurant. It was great times, and then bam Thrusday morning 4am... chest pain, nausea, and a trip to the hospital. Long story short, it was just my G.E.R.D. (acid reflux) and a mild case of food poisoning. This all took me out of my normal routine, but thankfully it wasn't a worse scenario and such. Overall, I am feeing better and looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend and the Superbowl. Rumor has it new Star Wars trailer during the game... so excited.

So this brings me to the question I have for all of you this month... when you start to feel restless or apathetic towards games you are playing, how do you deal with it?

# Game Achievements Playtime
1 Knights of Pen and Paper +1 95% (40 of 42) about 33 hours
2 Nebula Online 33% (9 of 27) about 5 hours
3 BoomTown! Deluxe 100% (25 of 25) about 7 hours
4 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition 64% (48 of 75) about 124 hours
5 Starward Rogue 2% (1 of 49) 17 minutes
6 Tower Wars 9% (3 of 35) about 3 hours

Knights of Pen & Paper +1

Found a great reddit post, that discusses the best character combinations and team makeups specifically for power play throughs. Using this I have started to get the last 3 achievements left for this game. I completed the one that requires a quick playthrough of the story line. Currently I have two left, the first is 50 dungeon clears, I have 23 I think left. But this will help me get the exp and gold to finish the last one (enter the kitchen). This requires me to battle all the types of dragons from what I understand. Should only be a bit longer to get this to perfect!

Nebula Online

This is a rough one... not sure I can keep playing it. It takes so long to go from one place to another... it feels like it has sooo much potential though. I might play a bit more to get some game experience in. But I know I can't complete some of achievements as they are based on the MMO nature of an almost dead game....

Boomtown! Deluxe

Marked this one as Perfected! It was a fun short game. Boom... collect gold... build your city... repeat. I really enjoyed it for what it was, a simple city builder. It does have a few downsides but meh.

Skyrim

Again I started this up... and tried to play a bit. I just couldn't get into it... and I don't know why. There isn't much left in the main game, just need to buy and build some stuff then turn evil... and then there is Solstheim to explore. I might try to go there and explore that first to get a feel of that and then come back to the main game. Only 27 more achievements left...

Starward Rogue

Won this last week at Steamgifts... working on trying to get a game/round in everyday. It seems like a very interesting Roguelike that could rival the Binding of Issac... but that is a heavy outlook. We will have to see, have to get into it a bit to understand the mechanics more. It really seems promising though.

Tower Wars

Played a couple more rounds of this... and I suck so hard at this. I can't seem to micro hard enough to keep up with even the second worst AI... I really need to figure out what strategies I really need to do to work through this. Any thoughts on how to be better with the micro or the strategies?

Garcias

Hopefully everything will be ok in the near future in your life :)

TerinHD

Yeah. I think everything will be good! Thanks though!

Holy crap, that’s a lot to gang up on you in one week. And here I was thinking my week was exciting because I painted a room. I hope it gets better.

Skyrim

It’s a go-to people game for a lot people. I know a friend who basically return to TES games whenever he wants to cheer himself.

TerinHD

Yeah, but in from Dec into January I have put 124 hours into it and one of my struggles is that I am getting apathetic towards it… I might try the Soltheim DLC to fill the gap.

But yes, I am hoping this weekend will be great. I have only a few chores to do on Saturday, so it should be a day full of video games! :D

Greg

A week to remember for sure. Hang in there, weekend is upon us.
As for your question, whenever I start feeling apathetic towards a game I am playing I just stop playing it and try something else.
It has happened to me with Borderlands 2, most probably because I went for it right after beating the first one and also cause I am playing solo. Haven’t uninstalled it yet though, I might get back to it later

TerinHD

I agree… the weekend should be great! :D

I get that… but part of my struggle is that when I do that I typically have to start a new game to get back into it correctly. I haven’t been one to pick up the saved game I have… are you typically able to pick up an old saved game?

Greg

I almost never go back to playing a game I have decided to quit (no matter the reason) but the few times I did so, I picked up my old saved game.
Starting from scratch would most probably give me more negative feeling about that game

That’s a lot to handle at once, hopefully your and your friends’ problems take a turn for the better soon! To answer your question, there’s not much to do when I hit a gaming ‘slump’. I usually play much less and only spend time with games that I’m used to play, something that I can just kind of ‘zone out’ with. Sometimes I take a complete break and wait until a genuine interest draws me back in.

Have a good weekend, enjoy the Superbowl!

I think as far as the friends… it is just time that will make the difference. Life is like the tides… sometimes it rolls in… sometimes it rolls out.

Both are pretty sound strategies! I usually try the latter… but this time I want to try to push through, might just be to find a game to zone out too.

escollo

Hang in there, turtle! Problems’ll be solved eventually. Or at least will be replaced with another ones.
When I get apathetic towards games I just stop playing and find another occupation.
And you really should check Solstheim especially if you liked Morrowind. There are many useful stuff and exiting quests.

TerinHD

Yeah, I agree. Or the problems just go away. Time is really the key, and trying to keep a positive mindset. Good thing my wife is the ever optimist, she really balances out my pessimism.

I think that is my plan for Skyrim… move on to Solstheim and see what it is all about.
