20.7 hours, 35 of 36 achievements

I won this game on a subreddit a month or so ago, and after 10 mins of playing it, it was obvious that I'm never going to be able to play it single player as it would be extremely boring that way. Luckily, the friend I'm staying with (I'm on vacation since a week) was interested in playing it with me. We've finally completed it!

It's a bit stupid but cute. We ignored most of the narration in the game, so it made it easier to sit through--the narrator was annoying imo. Someone else might like it though, the writing was funny at times and always ridiculous. The beginning levels are extremely easy, but as the game progressed, we had to replay same levels over and over again just to get the pancake. There was one level which alone took at least 4 hours. No kidding. Once we sat to play the game, played that same level for 1.5 hours and then gave up because clearly we weren't going to progress that day. We had to leave that level to the very end of the game (where we went through the levels to get missing photographs or pancakes) and even with that, it took a significant amount of time. Not sure if it's the level or us, but yeah.

Honestly, after Blue Ϟ Lightning said they didn't enjoy it, I wasn't very hopeful of this game, but fortunately we ended up enjoying it a lot! It's best if you play it with a friend. We laughed so much at the stupid ways we died (and there were a lot of those), and we high-fived each other when we eventually passed a hard level. I'm sure this game can be completed in less time than 20 hours, but eh, who is rushing?

There are a couple of achievement bugs though. One is that you randomly get Photo Album and Precious Memories achievements even though you haven't completed them. The second one is that you can't get Exotic Snacks achievement, hence why I have 35 out of 36, instead of 100%.

The game has little replayability value for me, but 20 hours is a lot of game time from such a game anyways, so I'm happy.

Do I smell broken achievements? Boo, game devs, boo!

I know…. sad. I hope they fix it. After posting this, I checked the Steam page and apparently the game hasn’t been updated since a long time, so I’m not so hopeful anymore :(

Amitte

Sigh… I know it took quite a while for this game to be released (I’ve known of it ever since I watched videos of the prototype/base/whatever you will being played online), but it looks really professional, so it… it just hurts the reputation, maaan…

aonrao

It is pretty professional other than the several broken achievements. I’ve tweeted at the developer asking for an update, but haven’t received a reply yet. :/

Amitte

Gah, it’s so annoying when you have to go and complain about things. I don’t know about you, but for some reason I feel like when I do those things, no one notices, 99% of the time :/

aonrao

It wasn’t much like a complaint though, I’m genuinely curious if he plans to fix it. I also think that he won’t notice and/or reply, but eh, just took a couple mins and I got it off my mind at least. :D

Sometimes you need to let people you care about things, especially when the said thing isn’t very popular so no one else is doing it.

Amitte

Then again, I suppose there’s a bigger chance of being noticed when it comes to indie devs. (shameless plug: Thomas Brush, the dev of Pinstripe is a total sweetheart)

And you’re totally right! Even if I don’t have any hope in getting a reply, I’ll write about something that bothers me anyway… ‘cause you never know :D

aonrao

I hope so at least!

Pinstripe is on my wishlist since a while now, and I’m really looking forward to getting & playing it :D

Amitte

You gotta, gotta, gotta get it! Such a good game :D

I had pretty much the exact experience as you. :) Played it with my brother while he was home from college, was way more fun that way! Glad you had a buddy to play with as well.

Definitely think the narration was cheesy and sometimes too repetitive (like mentioning their pets every level) but I love the voice actress Elspeth’s work (actually why I got so excited after hearing the trailer), so it enhanced my enjoyment of it. haha

It’s a shame they never fixed Exotic Snacks, I saw back when I first beat it they said they were gonna release a patch soon..

aonrao

Haha yeah, the game is so much more fun with a friend!

I also saw that they’re going to release an update and got excited, and then realised: oh, that was supposed to be released way back. I hope they fix it though.

we had to replay same levels over and over again just to get the pancake.

Would you be willing to go into a bit more detail on what exactly makes the later levels so hard? For example, was there an obtuse mechanic that took you a while to figure out? Was it more of a skill/reaction-based challenge?

aonrao

It was mostly us being stupid, I’d say. We didn’t have a controller, so the second player had to use the mouse (which is stupid imo, just let us use the arrow keys & ASDW–but nooo). It could get really hard using the mouse to play, or we’d get distracted and get killed/die randomly. None of them are extremely hard. There was only one single level I’d call hard, others are probably easy to do with a controller & keyboard, instead of a mouse.

There were a couple of levels that required us to figure out what’s going on & that took a few tries. But yeah.
