ramblin’ on in on Feb 26th 2k19

FIRST i was really into Final Fantasy VII with the chocobo breeding and finally getting Knights of Round materia again, but ahahahaha my dog Methuselah has a thing for eating stuff i put my hands all over so you can kind of guess what happened to my controller. i don’t like playing JRPGs without a controller cos otherwise my fingers cramp, so that game is on hold until i can order a new one in a couple weeks.

NOW i’m back into my current playthrough of Mass Effect. i say current because all my old saves were apparently kept locally back on the computer that fried up like a shamed goose egg in a chef’s pocket, so now i gotta do everything all over again if i wanna smooch Garrus! oh no! (lol not really, i’m okay with replaying because the anticipation is part of the fun when it comes to Garrus. no i am not joking.)

ANYWAY here’s just a list of the random little games i’ve finished since my last update. trying out the generator’s function of keeping the reviews out of sight until you click on the More button because it just looks swankier that way, but also i am very lazy right now so all the reviews are total nonstarters and filled with an excess of exclamation points. oh well, what the hell.

i think the reason all the dudes in this game are cranky is cos of the high-collars on their shirts.

oh boy. it's a perfectly fine hog but if you want to 100% it be VERY CAREFUL in looking for the notes you gotta collect cos they mesh so well into the backgrounds that i had to restart the game four! fucking! times! before i finally got a playthrough where i got them all. so instead of going "ooh this was an entertaining HOG!" i was just relieved it was all over.

i mean. okay, you can only explode a demon pig to get a fancy door lock so many times before the shine wears off.

dumbass sudoku ripoff that can combine with all the other sudoku ripoffs to form a crappy voltron ripoff!!

game gave me a headache for some reason and i have no idea why. was it the colours? was it the music that you could turn off a million times but would switch back on whenever it felt like it? was it just my crabbiness in general? WHO KNOWS. but for the larger puzzles i just consulted a guide to get started on one line and the rest filled in easy after that. i'm just glad it's off my hard drive now, man. so, so glad.

idk. for a puzzle game it was dull, crowded, and irritated me for no good reason. i'll admit that i might've just been in a mood when i played it, though, so take this scree with a grain of salt.

all this game needed was some bongo drums and finger snaps and we'd have the perfect "deep" hipster dive

hollllyyyyy crap this game was such a waste. prolonged monologues about melancholy and hidden meanings and old writers living on islands! stock characters with bad voice work mumbling through their lines! inexplicable infodump after infodump after infodump!!!!!!

i will give this game ONE good point and that point is the first creepy thing the conductor does at the end of chapter one. won't spoil it cos it's better if it's a surprise, but i legit snorted a laugh so hard i hurt myself when it happened. and then they did a send-up to that event at the absolute end of the third chapter that made me laugh again. BUT THE REST OF IT WAS SHIT AND I WISH I NEVER PLAYED IT.

this is the greatest mashup of stuff in the history of ever

i loved this game. still have to go back with a guide to get a few cheevos i missed, but i will! not! mind! because this game is such a goddamn delight that returning to this universe will be a pleasure. A. PLEASURE. and they're making a second one! it will be out in 2020! this is the greatest news since Rome burned!!!

sooooo uh NEXT is uh more Mass Effect followed by Mass Effect 2 and then finished off with Mass Effect 3 on Origin, but games i can actually remove entirely from my Steam backlog will be random and interspersed with whining. yay for whining! wait no.

stef

I love your reviews. They made me laugh :P ill have to give darkside detective a try!

censorthulhu

thank you! i hope you enjoy The Darkside Detective, the game really is a wonderful gem.

Charnel House Trilogy

I wish they didn’t have Sterling to voice-over one of the characters. It was severely distracting as it is, nevermind the fact he can’t act.

censorthulhu

i had never heard his voice before but when i saw his name in the credits i was just… wow. isn’t he venerated in some circles??? cos he played the part like Koerner twirling his handlebar mustache and ducking behind his evening cloak while the player is Poor Pauline tied to the railroad tracks so we can’t get away from the god awful line reads.

Trent

Wow, you are more determined than I (four times for Portal of Evil). After the first time, I would have used a Guide. 8.1 hours is pretty good for four playthroughs! :D

I actually kind of liked Charnel House Trilogy. *ducks*.

I really need to play at least one of the Mass Effect games. The first two are on my itching to play list, and have been for quite a while.

censorthulhu

ngl i played through twice and gave up for a few months. the last two plays were done this month, so. there was a wee break, lol. i was freaking speeding through the puzzles and muttering the entire time.

did you laugh when the crow went crashing through the window? i legit howled.

first play on ME1 for me was… 45 hours? easy combat difficulty, Vanguard class, kept Garrus with me at all times cos he can be pretty OP when you need him to be. so if you decide to settle down with at least the first one count on a 40+ hour run if you like to take your time and take in the sights (on all the MOONS you can crawl all over!)

Kyrrelin

Yay for Mass Effect!!! :D Three more Yay for Garrus! <3 <3 <3
Oh well, I have to play it again. I am fighting this urge for some months already, but seems like it’s inevitable! ;D

Enjoy your games! :3

censorthulhu

i fought against the urge to do another run for months and it was just unnecessary pain and suffering. give in to the lure of Garrus! his mandibles beckon, his calibrations await your arrival.

Kyrrelin

Oh gosh! Now you have done it! In two weeks I will have vacation so until that time I have to complete Andromeda and then back to my Garrus! <3
That calibration have really pushed me over. XD

RikkiUW

I have no idea what you’re talking about re Mass Effect, but I have the first two so now I want to play them. I’ll have to move them up my mental to play list. Same with Darkside Detective, that’s pretty high praise.
Sucks about your controller though. Thankfully my dog is doesn’t do anything like that anymore. When I first got her I didn’t crate her so she stress chewed things when I was at work. Naturally she went for things which are more difficult to replace than a controller though. So my Roku stick no longer has a remote and my good sunglasses are history. Oh well, price of having a dog I guess!

censorthulhu

Mass Effect is an experience unto itself. so much to do, so much to see, and it will suck hours of your time away so be prepared for that, lol. i was honestly surprised by Darkside Detective– games that run with that many references can be so hokey and overbearing, but the writer on this one managed to be irreverent and fun anyway. so looking forward to the sequel, i hope Cthulhu shows up for that one. ooh, or Dagon’s fishmen!!

oh man that must’ve been so frustrating! Lala is only… seven months old i think? so i’m hoping she’ll grow out of it. i already keep everything i don’t want my dogs to chew away in boxes but she’s a smart one and apparently likes to hunt -___- only reason i even know it was her is because after i yelled over the wreckage of the controller, she brought me pieces of it for the rest of the night to try and cheer me up! thanks… dog…. really.

RikkiUW

Bahaha she sounds really smart! What breed is she?

censorthulhu

german shepherd and rottweiler mix! she’s one of four from a litter a pregnant stray had on my land. managed to rehome the mother quickly because she was a purebred but the puppies all had health issues so i just kept them all expecting them to die. AND GUESS WHAT, THEY’RE ALL HEALTHY AND ALIVE NOW!!!! my vet just cackles at me when she sees me, it’s horrible.

what breed is your Roku Remote Destroyer?

RikkiUW

Haha I’ll bet, I don’t envy you those bills. That’s pretty great to keep them though. Mine’s a rescue, probably lab & mastiff. She’s got the mastiff shape but in every other way she’s like a lab. No guarding instinct, loves people, and would probably eat an entire bag of kibble given the chance.

Arbiter Libera

The Charnel House Trilogy

Interesting. That’s one of those games I keep trying to win on SG over and over for some reason. Sad to hear it’s not that cracked up.

censorthulhu

idk, if you get it for free and care about your Perfect Game Stat on Steam then it’s a fine addition since it doesn’t take long to finish, but yeah. legit have no idea why there are any positive reviews for this game at all, unless they’re all fans of Jim Sterling and think just because he touched it that it’s wonderful.
