Since I got a job at the beginning of the year, I haven’t played much, I just get home and drop dead asleep, and spend weekends sleeping some more.

I mostly started a couple of games just to see that they are not for me and remove them from my backlog:

  • Watch Dogs (BOOOORING, oh my so incredibly boring, I couldn’t last 15 minutes into it)
  • The Search for Amelia Earhart (GLITCHY, with a visible square around my cursor at all times)
  • Aloha Paradise Hotel (refused to launch after three different installation attempts). NOTE: I wouldn’t count it, but, although I have removed it from my Steam Library, it still shows up in my BLAEO page, so I had to mark it as “won’t play”.

So, these are out.

Somewhere in there I tried AC: LIberation and uninstalled after 20 minutes, I think. Is it just me or was it really that horrible? I really can’t get into Black Flag, I’ll try again in a couple months or accept defeat and move it to “won’t play” category. I have to admit I replayed ACB because I needed some comfort in my gaming, and I’m tempted to replay ACR, because I really rushed through it the first time.

And I started Rise of the Tomb Raider, which a very kind internet stranger gifted to me, but sadly it stopped working after the first few levels (after the bear and before the base, or thereabouts). I know my laptop is not the best, but I managed to play quite some time before the game inexplicably decided to just stop running. I reinstalled, prayed, swore, to no avail. I’ll try again some time in the future, but I’m really disappointed that I couldn’t finish it. I really, really, really wanted to play this game, there is NO WAY it stays unplayed in my library. Je refuse.

BTW, I marked Chicken Invaders as beaten, because I had beaten it ages ago on PC and I just bought it out of nostalgia. I like it and might play it again, but no need to mess up my stats, right? :-) I also count Poker Night at the Inventory as beaten, although I didn’t really finish it, I got most out of it, 75% achievements and don’t intent to replay it. Same goes for Hexus, I played most of it, so it’s not a “won’t play” and it doesn’t really have a story arc to finish, so I just don’t feel like playing the same thing for a few more levels.

But now Spring is here, I’m starting to get a hold of my new job and not feel dead tired all weekend, so it’s time to try tackling my backlog again!!!

I won’t continue my previous list, or even attempt to set monthly goals, I’m starting from scratch, but a vague “tackle the backlog” plan looks like this:

  • Try one last time to get into Black Flag. Either finish it or abandon it.
  • Try to finish TR The Last Revelation. If I find out I’m too old for those controls, I’ll let go.
  • Try to beat Solitaire Beach Season or at least reach a point that feels I got enough out of the game.
  • Give Runaway: A Road Adventure a decent chance, I haven’t played a point’n’click in long enough time.
  • Get at least one of HITMAN, HITMAN GO, Life Goes On, Dishonored, The Witcher out of the list. It will really depend on my mood, so we’ll see. Honestly, The Witcher looks like too much work, but I don’t want to give up on it yet.

Out of the remaining games, I have a strong suspicion a number of them will be summarily and unceremoniously moved to the “WON’T PLAY” pile. Thank god my “hoard everything available” phase didn’t last long.

I missed this. :-)

its good your finding time to play \o/

I haven’t touched much of anything with school

Stay at school.

(I know it was too easy, but I couldn’t resist :-) )

I found it easier to play games with work tho?
cause you worked for 8-9 hours and then were free
with school there are lab reports and other homeworky type things to do in your spare time so you are kinda booked.

Counting commuting and overtime, it’s easy to sink it at least 12 hours in work, sometimes 14 or more. It really depends on the person’s schedule (I remember school was not so time-consuming in my day), so I can’t judge :-).

I couldn’t last 15 minutes into it

Personally, I don’t think 15 minutes is enough time to decide whether or not a game will be boring for its entire playtime, especially since games are supposed to start off easy to let new players get used to how the game plays. I guess I’ll have to see when I play WATCH_DOGS for myself.

I consider myself a seasoned viewer/ reader, if not gamer, so I can tell pretty early whether I find the gameplay/ direction/ story promising or not*. I found the gameplay uninspiring and the lead annoyingly charisma-less, so why spend time just to see if I’m right or not? I used to make myself play/ watch things to their entirety because I didn’t dare to trust my instincts and spent countless hours on things that didn’t deserve it.

Now, I’m pretty sure I can tell when it’s time to stop.

*It can be promising and not deliver, just paved with hopes and good intentions, where you can see the honest passion and dedication of a mediocre limited team, which is another category. There are times where I can tell I will be disappointed, but I find some aspects of the game worth it, so I play those games until the end. This was not one of those games for me.

Congratz on your new job! I hope it’s an okay one or at least brings in some money :)

Thank you! I’m cautiously optimistic. :-)
