Wow, that month seemed to go by really quickly. And here we are in June already. It felt like I spent a lot of my gaming time doing longer / grindier achievements, with little to show for it, but I guess 7 games down was better than nothing. I'm still off of my yearly goal by about a game and a half, but I guess that's what casual games are for. Highlights of the month: Finishing Arkham asylum (completing my 'rocksteady' trilogy), starting Yakuza Zero and coming really close to finishing Saint's row the Third, after I found a co-op buddy here on BLAEO. Saints row the third will go to the top of my list for longest completion times, as it was one of the first legit games I got on steam, and languished there on my hard drive for nearly 7 years, as I could never find someone willing to grind through all the activities. Just a few more story missions and we're done.

Oh and going back to Yakuza Zero, it's certainly a wild ride. Think it may be a slow burn for me though, rather than a 'sit down and complete', so much to go through. It's very Japanese in it's sensibilities and plotlines, and as a result, a few of the sidequests have been eyebrow raising, but I do like the overall plot and the action. Can see why it comes strongly recommended.

On the home front, winter is setting in with a vengeance. My efforts to undo years of neglect in the garden continue, and are definitely paying off. We've got 5 of these huge cycads plants in the one section, and I was trying to clear the ground under them on Saturday and got poked by their spikey leaves all over for my efforts. So yeah I'm all covered with cuts today, but guess that comes with the territory. The dog is also much happier, as we have now fenced off an area of the garden for him to run around in. The bordering fence with the neighbours is very climbable for our 'mountain goat', and we had a few times of him disappearing. So for months he's been restricted to going out on the lead only, which lead to a sad beagle. But now he's got a nice big area to mess around in and seems much happier for it. He's 5 this year, but still acts like such a puppy, chasing bubbles and teasing you to chase him as he runs away with random things he finds.

This month's gaming will probably be punctuated by adding too much to the backlog, courtesy of the steam sale. But I've made a resolution to delete 1 game I will never play, for every one I add. I will try and finish the maind storylines of AC origins, and Deus Ex: Mankind divided, and hopefully finish Sniper elite V2 remastered and Saint's row the third to 100%

As for the sale, I have my eyes on a few games, hoping they hit the right price point, but top on the wishlist are Wolfenstein II, Hitman 2, AC odyssey, Just cause 4 (reviews be damned) and Kingdom come deliverance.

Have a good month everyone!

I don’t know. Seven games in one month seems like an awful lot to me. I need at least two months for this if not longer. On the other hand you still have some unplayed games to catch up :P To bad there is nothing which catches my eye. Also this achievement streak is impressive. O.o

On another note, I checked your completed games and have one or two questions:

BroForce: How did you do the no death achievements. Alt+F4 as soon as you died? And then restarting game?
The Polynomial: How did you get the Ghost achievements? You have to survive the onslaught of the enemies and wait for the ghosts to be eaten and then to attack. I didnt manage one, not to say 100 in 5 minutes O.o

Also how do your game times come together? In some games you are a lot faster while in others you took your sweet time.

Formidolosus

Haha, yea my times are definitely erratic. Some times I’ll just sit down and play a game through from start to finish. Other times I’ll get distracted by something else and only come back to it much later. Or I’ll hit a skill level wall, and only try it again later (like 140). A lot of the games I bounced off of years ago, I found a lot easier when I came back. I think it was between the time spent playing and having a decent gamepad. It’s also dependent on games I play with the kids. So lego games usually take a lot less time.

And yeah broforce only saves at the completion of each level section, so if you hard exit after a death, it doesn’t count if you start the game and reload. I also kept a few backups of my saves just in case. But often you can also get through levels quite safely by ignoring a lot of the enemies and tunnelling under, or moving carefully. It’s insta-death, but all the enemies have a split second of reaction time to give you a chance. I also played on the easiest setting.

The polynomial, I followed a guide on astats for that, which had a mod for the game to add more enemies. It made all the enemies appear a lot quicker. This was an SG win, so I wanted to beat it, and the guide in question has lots of upvotes and was written by the person at the top of the leaderboard, so I used it. But I’ll admit it always bugged me, because generally their rules are that mods must be officially supported, but the guide was a script edit essentially. And yet just about all of the top players on the site seemed to have finished the game in a few hours, so I assume they all used it. I don’t know, maybe because it’s scripted in LUA, they take that as being ‘mod friendly’ and allow it? Like I say, it has always bugged me, so I’ve since decided, I’ll just stick with playing games as I’m comfortable doing, rather than using shortcuts that completely ruin the game. I’m only robbing myself in those cases and ‘rules’ seem so inconsistent.

Adelion

Ah damn. I did fear it was the mod described in Astats -_- I did refrain from it. But I have really no idea how to do it otherwise. Maybe I will spend another half hour trying to get at least the easiest one. Have to strengthen my achievement buffer.

As for BroForce I might do the tabbing out thingy. Although it will look strange if I get the last three achievements all together. Maybe I should try getting Iron Man by normal playing. But to be honest I havent noticed a difference between Normal and Hard Mode in BroForce because everything kills you in one blow anyway. Is the reaction time different?

Formidolosus

Yeah sorry man! I wish I’d thought about it more at the time, but when literally half of the top ten on the site earned the achievement and had so little play time, it seemed ‘ok’. Only once I installed it I realised there was little to no skill involved anymore. Just shoot blindly while your CPU grinds to a halt, then you die, and the achievements pop up. Just silly.

And yes, broforce on hard mode is noticeably different. The reaction times are quicker, they shoot more often, it felt like there were more enemies and on the sections where it’s time based, I definitely struggled more on the timing with the hard mode run, maybe that was just psychological though.
If I’m not mistaken the hard exit might not work on ironbro mode. (Backing up save games does ) So I don’t know if a no death run and ironbro run in one would be particularly possible without save scumming, but you seem more dedicated to the craft of being genuinely good than me, so maybe you’ve got it in you.

Adelion

Nah, don’t worry about it. I mean if majority did use it, then there seems to be no problem with it from Astats side. Still wish the developer would make this one a bit more achievable. Because surviving is hard enough with the slow movement and pin point shooting enemies.

And no, BroForce does not belong to the games I plan on doing no death runs because to much bullshit is happening. Maybe I would try IronBro normally, but I would have to spent to much time for this. Welp, thanks for the information though. That will help me.
