LOOK TRENT I FINISHED TOREN

I didn’t finish it in one sitting like I wanted. I couldn’t - it…. it was too boring <:c

The game isn’t bad by any stretch of the word, no. It’s just… it’s too ‘almost’. It’s clunky and lacks finesse in everything—the art style, animations, story, presentation, controls, gameplay, setting… there’s effort here, a lot of effort, but there’s just none of that somethin’ that makes a game really stand out. I was definitely playing to not have to play it again, rather than play it for fun.

It’s not all awful, of course—the premise is pretty interesting, and I like how it’s a girl, of course, and the Moonchild LITERALLY being the moon was pretty clever. It’s just all ‘not quite’. Mix in some baffling gameplay choices (yes! what this game needed ABSOLUTELY was a puzzle where you wander around in a simple maze in the dark, waiting for 5 seconds that feels like an eternity each time for a lightning flash to light your way) and a surprisingly small map and… it just… ehhhhhh.

There’s something that was floating around in my head while I was playing that I immediately tagged as ‘god that’s SO pretentious,’ but I’ma say it anyway bc after three hundred some odd reviews that ship has sailed long ago—I feel like this is a good game for kids because it’s pretty simple and kids are more forgiving because they tend not to have very refined tastes.

see? Told ya. I’m gonna go lock myself in a car and listen to Top 40 hits only as punishment for being too much of a hipster. And it’s at this precise moment I realize it’s been a while since I’ve heard hipster used as an insult. Oh my god time comes for us all.

Next up: this game has been removed from the steam store, but not from my backlog! Apparently it is VERY grindy, but, hey, that just means I get to watch more Critical Role while playing—

See you soon!

Arbiter Libera

I think it was just too cryptic at times with nothing to really back it with in the end. Still, it was the devs’ first game from what I remember.

I was definitely playing to not have to play it again, rather than play it for fun.

Horrendous fate.

tsupertsundere

I definitely can see that - it has that ‘college project’ vibe. A good one, but still…

hey, at least I finished it at all! If it were any longer I would’ve hesitated in doing so.

Trent

Oh well. *cries*

I feel like this is a good game for kids because it’s pretty simple and kids are more forgiving because they tend not to have very refined tastes.

That must be why I liked it…I’m simple, forgiving, and have unrefined tastes. ( ._.)

Just kidding! Hey, different strokes and all that. I didn’t go for the philosophical part, but I liked the overall story, graphics, art style, and most of the gameplay. At least it didn’t kill your completion percentage! :)

tsupertsundere

NO TRENT OHHHH NOOOOO TREEENT NOOOO

All of those qualities are so good! They’re good! I’m just pretentious! Waaahhhhh!

<:C it didn’t kill my completion percentage, no… and I hope it didn’t kill our friendship

Trent

No really, I’m just simple, forgiving, and have unrefined tastes!
Well, maybe not unrefined tastes, and not always forgiving…and not really that simple now that I think about it :p
But either way, you’d have to try a lot harder to kill our friendship. <3 <3

Since this is a new post, I gotta ask: would you take suggestions? You’ve got multiple untouched games I personally love to bits!

tsupertsundere

You mean suggestions on what to play next? Hrrmrmrmmhmhm ehhhh… I’m gonna say no, not the least of which is I pick my next games in wildly varying arcane ways, and I have a terminal case of Hype Avoidance (even though I am one big Hype Generator when I lov something). If it’s in my backlog, I definitely WILL get around to playing it… just… maybe not for a while.

… okay but you like went out of your way to ask me and I’m not that strict. If you suggest one game, I’ll play it within the next two months. (If it’s a game I played before, though, that’s saved for next year)

Trent

It’s gonna be Demonheart or Tell a Demon, I know it.

ALJD;’FNOP’KFJ STOP

Amitte

You take me for an odd one, don’t you…

Trent

Lol, it was just a joke with Tsuper, from when RNG kept picking for her to play, as she calls it, “demonfucking games”.

Amitte

Ah, classic tsuper. That being said, that joke flew over my head as I 1) wasn’t actively at BLAEO when it happened and 2) probably didn’t read the reviews that mentioned it… or maybe I did… and my memory is just… weak ;w;

Trent

Yes, there’s no way you would have known about that. Here’s the reference, if you’re curious (see the comments).

Amitte

Ah, I totally went back and read that one! Still, it’s such a small reference. Friend inside jokes, amirite? :D

Amitte

A game never played before and one I love, too… hmm… I’d suggest Steins;Gate, but I still haven’t finished it and it’s long as hell - just know it’s shaping up to be even more amazing imo. Okay, now, to the point.

My choice is Alicemare - I played it before it got on Steam, even (or at least I’m convinced that’s how it was back then) and adored its somewhat cryptic and mysterious story. Shame I forgot so much… It’s a short RPG Maker game (HLTB says 2/3 h) with a characteristic color palette, unlike any other game I’ve played to this day, even. The creator even made a novel expanding on its story and it has since been translated online - if you give me a shout after playing, I’ll get you the link, too ^^

tsupertsundere

I played steins;gate a little bit before (up to chapter 4 or so) so that’ll be folded into my 2020 initiative…

buuuut okay. I’ll ESCHEW THE WILL OF RNGESUS and play Alicemare next, after XBlaze. I DO tend to really like Miwashiba’s stuff, and I’ve heard great things about it. I just might hit u up on that offer c:

Amitte

Mmm… 2020… THAT’S STILL SUCH A LONG WAY AWAY!

And also… YAY! I couldn’t bear seeing that one untouched, you just gotta check it out! :D
