It’s (Almost) Monday ~ Free Games are Free !
Hey guys, it’s almost Monday, I know it’s becoming a (bad) habit to write one or two days later, happens that I don’t go to physio on Mondays anymore, and having 80% of my focus distracted by physio +6 days (aka ouch). But I like to write the word almost, so yeah, get over it, whatever day I’ll post those update, it will always be Monday.
I thought today would be a day like another we would be able to speak of all those hidden gems that happen to be free for whatever reason even though they are super nice or well made or just happen to be that game you thought would keep you occupied for an hour and next time you’re watching the clock, it’s already 2AM and you spent the last 5 hours on it. And you want more.
Visual Novels
I’m cheating here. There are a TON of free VN, good ones at that, and as bonus it seems to be one of the best media to dig through specific topics other games can only scratch the surface on. LGBTQA+ topics are, of course, part of those and I could do a whole topic about them and how interesting they get over years.

Do you have some Free games that you love ? It can be VN or anything else, I’ll add those to the list. It can even include non Steam game :) !
I did begin CUPID, no idea why I stopped though !
I recently beat Under What? and missed messages, am playing Doki Doki (finally!) right now.
Loved The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, brought back such nostalgia for childhood and fantastic music/voice-over.
A Raven Monologue is beautifully made.
We Were Here was one of my favourites in general, had an absolute blast during the first playthrough (it’s co-op).
Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist is incredibly good for a freebie, if you loved Stanley Parable you’ll enjoy this one too.
Neon Beats was a very fun (albeit short) platformer.
As for VNs I still need to get to Love Thyself - A Horatio Story.
I totally agree with a bunch of your recommendations! You practically mentioned all of the ones I’m gonna comment about. :D
I’ve recently finished Love Thyself and I must say it’s pretty good. :3 The world building in it and the world itself is just so different and fascinating, even though the actual “plot” is a bit weak.
Nice to hear, will have to get to it soon!
I also have a book of beasts and buddies on my to play, but forgot about it nearly a year later… Ty for the reminder. :D
I just installed “A Raven Monologue” which looks beautiful, as well as Neon Beats. I did finish “lengthy title from those who made Stanley Parabole”, in fact I ran it twice, just to listen the K7.
I’ve added a bunch of free games to my wishlist to help me track them (including the aforementioned We Were Here and CAYNE), but to my knowledge I’ve never played one. Oh and I guess I did play Serena because it’s by Senscape (Scratches, ASYLUM). But you know how it is– with so many games in the backlog that you’ve paid for, it’s sometimes hard to play a free game. Sounds silly, I know…but I don’t really consider free games in my backlog, per se.
I did play a bunch of the ones in your Wishlist, Marie’s room was short but pretty nice :)
A Book of Beasts and Buddies is a game that I just adore so much but so little people know about it honestly just saddens me. :<
Robin is also a nice experience, even though I won’t technically call it a “fun” game.
I also really enjoyed the first episode of The Lion’s Song and actually bought the rest of the game. But it’s still sitting in my backlog…..Orz
I really like the art style and the overall feel of MANDAGON.
And last but not least, I got Monument Valley free a while back on my phone and enjoyed it very much. Sadly it’s limited time free, but it’s a good game to keep an eye out for.
Oh and I’m also like Trent that added a lot of free games to my wishlist. I just need to remember that I actually did that and to play them when I get the chance and the right mood. :P
I installed Robin, I think it also describe pretty well my problem as a spoonie as well. I wasn’t even aware that this sort of games could exist, you just gave me a tool to explain to the people who don’t understand my constant struggles. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Glad I helped! Hope it didn’t drag your mood down or anything. I remembered someone else on here played it and felt pretty bad afterwards(also I felt pretty bad after playing it really. :P)
You didn’t at all, it’s always complicated to explain to people what is a spoonie, a lot of them don’t get it even after explaining several times. Maybe a game can educate them and I’m ALL for educating people while doing something by yourself that can be fun. I always recommend people to play games such as “A Normal Lost Phone” to have an idea of how it is in the inside. It’s hard to understand what it is to be so low in energy that you’re forced to sleep during the day. My partner understands, but some other people who come home and see me leaving in the middle of the afternoon to sleep struggle at times, it’s always nice to have another tool to educate them, thanks for giving another to me :) !
Cheeky Chooks is definitely my favourite free game on Steam. It’s very adorable and enjoyable.
Here is a screenshot of my farm.
Other notable mentions:
Looks great! Love the paths and circular nature of the town. :)
I really enjoyed the game up until the last map, lost steam after rearranging everything each time it expanded and fitting room to build the necessary items. But seeing your farm makes me wanna go back and freely decorate one (since I’ve already 100%’d the game).
Yea UI and controls wise it could definitely use some quality of life updates which they said that they are going to focus on next in a recent announcement. It also could use an item capacity expansion. Maybe a slider in options so everyone can decide for themselves according to what their PCs can handle.
Thank you.
I gave a try to Cheeky Chooks and it’s super cute ♥ !
