May 2018 - Week 1 - 4

A lot of shit happened this month. The girl in the shop managed to cancel my network contract by accident and there I stood almost the whole month without an internet connection. Yuck! Today a technician came to activated a new one. That means I couldn’t do anything to kill my backlog in the last three weeks! But let’s stay positive! I learned how to crochet and made cute plush toys for cosplay like Mr. Mew from The World Ends With You for my girlfriend who cosplayed Shiki or some Chocobos for our Final Fantasy XV cosplay. And also some cute Pokémon ^w^ My connection is faster now than it ever was, too. I won’t ever need to wait hours for a game to download anymore! In the end I can say I’m happy the long wait is over and I can finally play some games again and I’m also proud of myself for finding a new hobby.
So here’s my progress this month:

    Rakuen

    Why do their games have to always be that sad and beautiful at the same time? In Rakuen you play as a nameless, sick boy in a hospital. His favorite book leads him and his mother to a magical world where he wants to make a wish, which is granted after he helps the patients who are also hospitalized. This setting is already sad, but we do not only have one tragic story about a boy and his mother but five ones! One more sad than the other one. Jeez.

    Laura Shigihara is truly a very creative human being. Her music is awesome – every soundtrack in game was beautiful. The story was great, the characters were neat. And there were a lot of unique puzzles and minigames which made the game never repetitive.

    We need more games like these (TTM and FP included).

    Man, I love this game! It's this kind of game where you tell yourself „Just one more day“ and do a lot more. CSD is extremely addicting. It's totally fun to fail at some new dishes and watch yourself master them, complete the extra challenges after failing them five times in a row. CSD is very stressful but it's also a lot rewarding.

    I played CSD some time ago, and got stuck in a challenge (I guess it was the Iron Cook American Food Challenge?) and hence bought CSD 2 just recently because my gf got addicted to a pizza cooking app and I wanted to play CSD again. Sadly, CSD 2 wasn't nearly as good as CSD 1 and I got a refund, started CSD 1 again. In CSD 2 there was no sense of progression, no choices for you to make what to buy next – an upgrade? A new dish? An equipment? What's on your menu for the next day? What's new is that you can decorate your restaurant but tbh the interface is really confusing and unnecessary complicated. Everything else you unlock over time and have to deal with it. CDS 2 focus more on the minigames part and ignores everything else (and I hated the holding stations).

    Imo CSD is the best cooking game I have ever played and I can't nearly find anything I didn't like. There are dishes which are extremely difficult but none of them are impossible and when you manage to remember each command you don't have to think anymore which buttons to press. But therefore CSD isn't a game you play now and then but in a short time to not forget everything again.

    This was the only game I had left on my PC which doesn't need a network connection. I was skeptic when I won this on SG but it was surprisingly fun. The level of difficulty increased very fast in the first hour and I went game over a lot until I found out how to actually play this game; how to manipulate your tenants and actually make money. I had to retry for another time because I already messed things up before I finally understood and lost my whole family. And then it began to became less fun. The thing is that there's almost nothing new. There are always the same tenants and the same items, the same rules. It would've been great if there was a difference between each play through because it got boring doing everything again but better and soon I had so much money that there wasn't any trouble anymore. I lost my interest near the end and made dumb decisions to at least have some financial problems again. But the idea of Beholder is still awesome and finding things out the hard way without anyone to help you with clues was great so overall I guess I can say that I enjoyed it pretty much. It had kind of a feeling like Papers, Please with all these struggles between doing your job and ethics and I like this moral dilemma.

Aw that’s so cool that you made your own plushies! I love looking at all the things people make for cosplays, always end up looking super cool.

I totally agree, while I still am enjoying CSD2 the lack of progression is a massive con. I like how there’s restaurants/big variety of food in the second, is a lot of fun trying out the new recipes (though it took me a while to understand/enjoy the holding stations)…but it’s like they just shove a load of stuff at you and are like “okay have fun with this” and you’re like umm…okay? And sometimes getting 10+ items unlocked suddenly after a level, makes it so I don’t even wanna touch the editing your own kitchen part because there’s just so much stuff. Way too much. The first one just feels a lot more homely, as you improve your humble lil restaurant. Still love these typing games though, very addictive like you said. :)

Yes, yes, yes, exactly! And why cut everything everyone was having fun with out? :/ But I see why ppl still can enjoy CSD2 because they really improved the minigames. The restaurant is far too small tho for all those decorations; I gave up on them fast, too… Do you know any other addicting games like CSD?

Yeah it is oddly small, the whole thing just seems he had too many ideas scattered around but wasn’t able to pinpoint what exactly he wanted. The dev was great with updates/fixing CSD, so there’s a part of me that still hopes it’ll get fine tuned. Not really, sorry. :(

I’m really excited to play Rakuen and cry a bunch!! Mommy/baby stories hit me really hard - I’ve seen Bambi and Dumbo once and exactly once because the sad mom parts made me cry too hard and I don’t ever need to see them again.

How is Detroit: Become Human? I’m not a big David Cage fan…. but robot stories are some of my favorite kinds of stories. How is it? How does it fill out the bingo card?

Haha, thanks for that bingo card! Didn’t even know that’s a thing! In my play through there were only about 5-7 ones filled? No bingo :D But there are a LOT of paths to unlock so I can’t guarantee anything. I haven’t researched yet but assuming from the time lime thing there are a lot of scenes you can miss or play another one instead. It depends on your choices far more than LiS or any Telltale Game at least. But I must admit that I waited for this game since I found the short tech demo of quantic dream and just NEEDED a game about Kara so I already was obsessed with this game before it’s release… Why don’t you try out the demo and decide for yourself before spending money? :)

That’s a really good point, and it’s nice to hear the story really does get effected. I’ll pick it up on sale sometime!
