Well. That was a journey.

Out of all the odd, artistic point and clicks I’ve played, Maggie’s Apartment is certainly the one with the most coherence, and with the most unique art style. Everything is hand animated in a really nice, pop style, everything colored in with markers. You play as a cute fat lady who loves (and is dating!) the most heart-throbbiest of heartthrobs… until things start to go wrong. There’s a handful of locations, and Maggie is trapped in her eponymous apartment, with only a strange assortment of friends and neighbors to help.

It’s… you know? It didn’t land for me. It’s four clicks to the left of what I wanted, and even though I can appreciate the effort, I… didn’t like it, for me reasons. It’s an absurd game, yes, but I wish the tone shift hadn’t happened. Spoilers for the end of the game: I haven’t seen an adorably fat female protagonist in a game, walking around in her bra and pannies being all cute n shit, and I was thrilled that she was shown as being so desirable the biggest superstar was dating her… except, of course, it’s a lie, and he’s not. There’s a “positive” ending in that, you know, she makes it out okay… but then her life is in a shambles at the end. I really was just kind of hoping for something more positive than it was.

It’s a weird one, folks, and all I’m left with shrugs n puzzlement.

Next up: Another hand-picked one! I’ve had this one for a while, too!

See you soon!

so the plot is basically a bait-and-switch? that sucks so hard, oh man.

Yeah! And Maggie’s personally is really just wrapped up in how much she loves her boyfriend. I mean, at least it wasn’t like ‘she was delusional and only imagined dating him this WHOLE TIME!’, which is what I thought they were hamhandedly hinting at at the beginning.

Can’t win ‘em all I guess :/
