July Progress
I made a bunch of progress in July cue my 1st post even tho I have been using this site for months with a quick summary, so I can look back and seen what I have played.

Sparkle ZERO - God this game is boring
Fort Defense - I haven’t actually won this on SG, but I did win both of the DLCs for it. Decent game, but gets a bit to hard for my liking
Doodle God - Has some really interesting challenges, overall a decent game
Day D: Tower Rush - Gets impossibly hard by level 15 even on easy mode
The Silent Age - Really nice, but I got confused a few times in which time I was with all that time travel

Surfingers - I am really bad at it. My current record is around 450 points, I need 500 to get the last score achievement, fingers crossed next month.
Sixtieth Kilometer - I have played the first 6 chapters so far, interested to see where the story goes. I should hopefully finish this before August as well.

Fantasy Mosaics 14: Fourth Color - If you ignore the fact that it makes you reset your progress on the board if you make to many mistakes it is a really good game. Would be nice to have an option to solve all the colors at once and not one after the other tho.
League of Mermaids - I have started this game a year ago, finally got around to finishing it. Very relaxing.
7 Wonders II - Damn game installed itself in German and my German is Scheiße and had no option to change the language as far as I could find. Thankfully it is a straight forward and good match 3 game.
Meow-Jong Solitaire - Another straight forward game. 120 cat themed mahjong levels - I approve!
The Turing Test - Felt like the sequel in the Portal series, really good.
Puzzle Agent 2 - Pretty good, but I have liked the 1st one more.

The Cooking Game - Was really fun at the begining, but now I am at the point when getting 3 stars on levels is almost impossible. Hopefully I can 100% sometime next month.

Wanderland - Absolute grind-fest. If I knew it was that bad, I would have never even downloaded it, but since I did, I am determined to finish it.
Killing Floor 2 - Beaten about half of the maps on Suicidal difficulty. It is getting easier but I am not looking forward to playing Hell on Earth - but my friend is going to be happy that I will I guess :)

You can change the language of some games through steam itself. (Right click on the game in your library->properties->language). It won’t work for all games though.
And that reminds me of a game I had when I was younger, back when I was still living with my parents. It was a little known game called Deo Gratias. The game was made by the french developer Cryo Interactive, and they messed up how the game was detecting languages. I think this was how the game did it (though I’m not 100% sure, and nobody knows of this game anyway, so I’ve not been able to ask anyone about it):
If your OS was set to a supported language, like say English or German, the game would be in that language. If your OS was not set to a language that the game supported, it would be in French. When I first installed the game, my OS was set to English, but at some point we had to re-install windows, and my parents wanted it to be in Swedish. When I tried to re-install the game, it was in French, and thus unplayable..
This one doesn’t seem to have that option sadly and could not find anything about how to change it at all. I hate when games automatically select the language for you depending on the base OS language (I am not even actually using it in German, I have an English language pack installed) and it is even worse when they don’t let you change it. Sigh, I miss my own PC (currently abroad using my boyfriends old one) where everything would auto default to English since nobody cares about translating games to Slovenian.
I can not say I heard of it either. I guess it kinda makes sense that it defaulted to French since the developer of it seems to be French, but god that had to be infuriating. I hope you had at least finished the whole game before and didn’t have to give up on it in the middle of the game.
Oh, that’s annoying. It’s not like it would cost the developers any more to let you set the language…
Swedish is in a similar situation. It’s just too small of a language to be worth translating to. The last game I can even remember having been translated to Swedish was Black & White. For some reason EA thought it was a good idea to translate some of their games, but the result was generally not good (exception being Dungeon Keeper. While the translation was spotty, the voice actor they found was great), and in the case of Black & White people were privately importing the English version as to not have to play the game in Swedish.
Oh no, young me could simply not wrap his head around the game. I’m not sure if I could even do it these days, the game was really unintuitive.
Interesting, I thought there would be quite a decent amount of games translated. I guess it also has something to do with the high percentage of Swedish people that speak English.
The only game I have ever found, on Steam at least, that was translated to Slovenian was Snail Bob 2 out of all the things. It really caught me off guard when I started that game and suddenly it was in Slovenian. Annnnd then I immediately changed the language back to English. Also good thing I went back to the store page to grab the link for it as it is going back to my to play pile as they added more levels to it earlier this month, gosh I am such a child. EDIT: Game doesn’t have Steam Cloud, well fuck me sideways, I hope it lets me play the newest ones without playing the oldest 1st.
I got really curious and looked the game up. Didn’t find all that much but from the description I found, it sounded like an interesting game. Then I saw some screenshots and I changed my mind. I don’t think I understand a quarter of the words in this screenshot.
Yeah, most people here speak English well because very few things gets translated, and very few things gets translated because most people speak English well. But that’s true for a lot of smaller languages. There’s a stronger correlation between people speaking more than 1 language between language size and number of languages spoken than there is between level of education and number of languages spoken. Adult Slovenians speak an average of 3 languages, adult Swedes speak an average of 2,7 (median is 3 for Slovenians, and 2 for Swedes). In the UK the numbers are 1,6 average and 1 median, despite their high level of education.
I probably should stop doing fact dumps like that unless people ask for it…
Some Ubisoft games have the option to have subtitles in Swedish, but I can’t remember seeing a game that has full support for Swedish.And heck, I even once advised an indie dev to not translate his game to Swedish because it would be a waste of resources.
The game does look quite interesting, but not only does it use needlessly hard words, but the interface is obtuse and it lacks direction. Actually, the last word in that screenshot, degenisification, is probably not even a real word. The only reference I could find to it was from an abandonware site talking about this particular game.
Makes a lot of sense. The second you leave Slovenia all your knowledge of Slovenian becomes completely useless. Well it might come handy in a Slavic speaking country to understand a word or 2, but that is about it.
Fine by me to post fact dumps, I find this kinds of things interesting :)
