In a word? Sloppy..

Vampire Legends is an older HOG than I first thought when I picked it up, and it’s developed by an unfamiliar studio (though, of course, published by good ol’ Arti Mundi). Its still in that era of 2D painted sprites with a little movement, less lip-synching, and no emotion. I was off to an inauspicious start when the opening cutscene audio ran a full two seconds out of sync with the video, and the quality kind of maintained from there.

There’s a town haunted by a vampire, and you show up, and you kill the vampire. Or do you? You didn’t, and the extra chapter has you return to really end the menace. I enjoyed the extra chapter way more because it was just you and the town, no badly-voice acted badly-animated characters for you to poorly interact with. (No, the Artifex Mundi lady doesn’t show up in this one). The extra chapter had a real vibe of loneliness that worked well, and it emphasizes that if you can’t do a lot with your character anims, or have good voice actors, then maybe you don’t need characters in your story. It’s fine to let the setting and the player interaction speak for itself.

Otherwise: standard fare. I’m glad I won it in a giveaway, and my Playing Appreciated task is fulfilled. I appreciated playing it!

Next up: T’is the season!

See you soon!

I just started it (Challenge Me! and all that) and I already miss my Lady Artifex :(
But yeah, it’s not the same level as the others, that much is clear already.
At least we don’t have to play it twice for cheevos sake ;)

Happy Costume killing!

Oh my god, I know.

Oh, damn, I should have mentioned I felt there were slightly more hidden object puzzles in this one compared to the others. There are some HOGs where it feels like it takes you 25 or 30 minutes to actually GET to play a hidden object puzzle, but this one they were everywhere!

Ah, that is actually nice. We like our HOS, that’s why we play HOGs, right? :D
