Update Two Hundred and Sixty-Two: 22 December 2018

No One But You

114 hours playtime, ~5 hrs actual, 18 of 18 achievements

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? December’s shaping up to be just as slow as November was - I had a LOT of dogwalking last week (but, conversely, made a lot of money!) and I’ve been dedicating as much extra time I could to playing Yakuza Kiwami with Madison on the PS4. We just finished, and after another session where we mop up a few remaining substories, we’ll be cracking into Kiwami 2 tonight!

One thing that makes games go longer is when they’re not… actually… very good, and this game is one of them. It falls flat in most aspects, and ends up being a sort of non-entity. It tries to pull the whole ‘you think it’s going to be a normal school life dating sim but THERE’S DARK STUFF HERE’ and it just… doesn’t work. The best, most affecting route is the ‘failure’ route where you get closest to the protagonist’s male friend, simple and honest and nice. All of the ‘dark stuff’ the girls deal with is either mundane or too fantastical, and the ‘big twist’ for one girl is telegraphed so hard for so long they might has well included it in the shop description.

Ughhh I’m getting tired just writing that short paragraph about this VN. Just skip it, friends.

Next up: I’m part of an otome vn steam group, and they hosted a bunch of holiday giveaways. I actually won two of them! I’ll be playing them next to continue to fit the SG Win December theme.

See you soon!

Hey, could you explain to me why do many of your posts have this weird “114 hours playtime, ~5 hrs actual” thing? What’s the meaning behind the first number which is often some crazy value compared to the second one?

tsupertsundere

Ha! Not a problem - it’s because I idle like crazy. I have a hard time staying focused on one thing for a while, and I leave my computer on and running pretty much all day. So, the 114 hours is Steam’s recorded playtime. For a long time, I’d just put that up and it’d freak a ton of people out - ‘it took you THAT long to play that game???’ ‘wow you must really like that game,’ etc. Kind of recently I decided on a compromise - I’ll list the Steam recorded playtime and my BEST GUESSTIMATE of what my for real playtime was (so, the ~5 hrs actual).

Does that make sense?

Pietruszek

It does. I just don’t ever leave my games idling and even though I’m aware that many people do this, I still didn’t want to believe the proportions I saw in your post, so I had to ask ;D

tsupertsundere

hahahahaha, ohhh no you’re woundin me right in my heart, pietrus! I’m doin my best! I get distracted a lot! When I die I’ll be judged by the amount of idle hours on my steam account!

xD

Sorry, didn’t mean to hurt you! Everyone is different. I always try to close my games when I start doing anything else, because I love how Steam tracks your playtime and I want my own playtimes to be as accurate as possible, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong in leaving your games idle. You can play your games however you want! Your approach even has some advantages over mine: in games where you can’t save in the middle of the level you don’t need to discard your progress if you suddenly have to go and do something different for an extended period of time ;)
