Okay I really wasn’t going to play any more hidden object games for a while after being pretty burnt out after June, but…. I won a Playing Appreciated giveaway for this game, so played it I did.

I hope everyone forgives my brevity, but: this is a hidden object game. There’s objects, you find them, there’s puzzles, you do them, there’s mysteries, you detect them. The story is slightly dumber than usual and the voice acting is slightly worse than usual. On the upside, there’s no timed achievements and they’re pretty free with what you can or can’t do so I breezed through this game pretty quickly.

I was with it at the beginning, but the more I played, the more nonsensical the game was. Ugh, now I have a headache. No more hidden object games for a while, FOR REAL THIS TIME.

Next up: I’m playing this for the story.

See you soon!

LOL, yeah…it’s pretty hard to “review” a HOG. Just create a dartboard with certain HOG-like descriptors (“pretty graphics,” “generic story,” “some annoying puzzles,” “too many collectibles,” “story with supernatural elements,” “spooky at times,” “standard Artifex Mundi,” etc.) and throw a few darts. The review then writes itself.

on the other hand, my last couple reviews were on the long side, so it was kind of nice to be like ‘it was a game’ and be done.

HOG! of the list!
Nice work ;)

And now on to some nice Jigsaw :]
It has a story? How does that work?
Have fun with puzzling :)

I was also feeling for a while that they were all the same and there was no point in reviewing them - until I realized, on a change of pace, that I was actually playing a lot of really sucky, dull, poorly-designed HOGs. And this was one of my least favorites out of the bunch.

So, for my two cents - “There’s objects, you find them, there’s puzzles, you do them, there’s mysteries, you detect them” is exactly right, because this is a completely uninspired by-the-numbers HOG, poorly put together and almost completely lacking in imagination.

But hey, just my two cents!

Yeah. and it’s not a problem with the genre, it’s a problem with an individual game. I’ve had some genuinely fun times with hidden object games, but the way Artifex Mundi churns them out, some of them have got to be clunkers. This was one of them.

Also? I know that the villain figure in the graphic tile for the game is supposed to be hooded, masked, and wearing goggles, but every time I look at that picture I see a duck.
