Update 20

So many games came out recently and I could only pick one of them for now. That one was Silent Hill Townfall, and it sure was worth it. Hopefully I can get my hands on some of the other new highly ranking on the wl games the closer I get to my bday and come Christmas (I say as if my backlog wasn’t already stacked).

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. More than that, I'm surprised that no one really talks about this game. I thought it was incredible. You get a masterfully crafted Tokyo setting, walking around the streets is a joy in itself. The atmosphere is amazing, it rains most the time and the game benefits from that. The only negative I can point out is the story, which is just kind of forgettable even if it gets a little emotional at points.

The biggest highlight for me, apart from the beautiful Tokyo setting, was the integration with the PS5 dualsense controller. I can see why people would find the combat a little boring or repetitive near the end, but that was never the case for me since the way you use that controller in the game is so much fun. You can swipe in different directions to switch your attacks on the move, without ever having to bring up the typical selection wheel. You also use it to break seals. Of course you also get the adaptive triggers and great haptic feedback. If you have access to a PS5 controller, I implore you to use it for this game, since it will elevate your experience drastically.

The side quests in this game are another massive win, they are some of the most interesting parts of the game. I'm not much of a side quest connoisseur in general, but this game had me doing quite a few. There is one that takes place in a school and is horror themed that is especially good. There is a lot of them though, and the map is like an Assassin's Creed type of map, full of icons and collectibles that just feel like checkboxes. I just ignored the random stuff and had fun with the quests I wanted to do and it ended up being a great experience.

Silent Hill: Townfall

This game actually feels a lot more like a proper Silent Hill game, unlike Silent Hill f. It is also SIGNIFICANTLY better than Silent Hill f. The setting of a Scottish island is genius and works so well, the houses, the streets, it all looks amazing. The gameplay is interesting, it works sometimes and other times not so much. There are a few sections where it gets very frustrating, unfortunately because on one specific enemy. Other than that it's pretty solid, thankfully that enemy does not appear that often. By far my favourite part of the game was Richard's section, because the stalker enemies were actually scary and had me on edge, while feeling like I actually had the power to do something by getting so much ammo for the Shotgun. (Obv the whole story idea is that killing them is the wrong thing to do, but playing it more as an action resident evil type combat is much more fun imo). I also liked the medical centre sections. Did not like the final area very much, again I understand that the story centres around it, but these industrial areas are always quite ugly.)
The puzzles in the game were fun, sometimes making you feel smart even though they're not too complicated, I'd say just make sure to set the difficulty for this on normal and not hinted. Overall, a pretty great horror game, that can get very tense and thought provoking, though the story just kinda gets worse the more you find out, so maybe being oblivious and just watching cool stuff happen is the better option lol.

Extras!
This month, I plan to play many horror games (or as many as uni will allow, free time is currency here 😬). Either way, I’ve decided to make a little challenge for myself. I have a list of 25 creepy games and I want to see how many I can manage to beat this month. I would say let’s aim for like 5 minimum. i really want to get into the Halloween spirit :) the formatting for the second half of this isn’t working and idk why, ah well
