Well, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is done and dusted. It was a fun, but very bug ridden tactical turn based RPG similar to XCOM as far as that part of the gameplay was concerned, but with free roam in between, which allows you to better position your characters. The game would incessantly freeze/crash while in the menu though and sometimes during cutscenes. However, the devs released a beta patch which fixed those problems for me, which was nice. The actual story and world was really cool, and the mix between free roam and tactical combat worked really well. The RPG options for both your characters and your gear were nice. It wasn’t a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but I really enjoyed it, and I’m glad the devs are active and responsive.

Beyond that, I’ve been playing a lot of games since my last update, but finished none yet (other than the above).

Star Control: Origins: I’m about 20 hours into this one and probably have another 10-20 to go. It’s a fun and irreverent game, definitely borrowing from Firefly, Hitchhiker’s Guide, Monty Python and plenty more besides. I never played the originals in this series, but I like this one.

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom: About ten hours into this with probably another 50 to go lol. It’s an amazing game so far. It would also be great for ids if one of the main characters didn’t have a propensity towards shooting enemies in the eye during cutscenes lol. Although, my 7 year old loves watching me play this, so I guess it aint so bad. :)

Book of Demons: This is a really cool take on roguelike/dungeon crawlers with the addition of a card power system. I’ve probably got another 10-15 hours to go with this one.

Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time: About an hour into this one. So far, it’s basically playing through a cartoon/anime with some beat em up dungeon crawler sections. I imagine the game is a fair representation of the show, although I’ve never watched it personally. Enjoying it so far.

Lucah: Born of a Dream: Also about an hour into this one. The art style is pretty interesting. Maybe a bit like Hyper Light Drifter, but even far more surreal. I’m terrible at using the dodge mechanic so far, but once I iron that out, this game should end up being a bit easier than it is so far. Really cool setting and the story seems interesting so far. Liking it.

Gray Dawn: This one is pretty over the top ridiculous in a not so glorious way. It’s like taking the Exorcist, but then opening the story up a bit and playing up the religious fear of demons aspect. So cheesy and campy. I may finish it or may retire it. Haven’t decided yet.

Neofeud: Interesting cyberpunk point and click with some cringy social commentary that seems about twenty years out of place. Still, it’s been decent so far.

Ashi: Lake of Light: Pretty and peaceful, oriental themed puzzle game. I’m not the best at these and question whether I’ll finish, but the game itself is quality.

Darksiders 3: Really just played an hour or so of this so far. Will continue at some point.

KURSK: An embarrassingly bad and very unfinished game that makes a lot of promises it can’t keep. These devs are also of the “delete and ban people in their forums who report certain bugs they dont want to address” sort. In addition, even if it was a full experience, it’s also way overpriced for the content. Retired, and I’d recommend staying clear. Had I not received a review copy and had actually spent money on this, I’d be pretty upset about it.

HELLGATE: London: Meh. It’s technically the same exact game in every way except maybe the inclusion of a mini boss mini game based on how many enemies you kill in an area, and the removal of the MMO aspects of the game (but all that stuff was simply disabled rather than actually removed, meaning you can still peruse all the pay to win stuff, and it’s evident in the game, but of course, the cool stuff like co-op is gone). This is as lazy a port as I’ve seen in a long time. You can definitely play it, but it gets boring fast without anyone to play with. Also, no gamepad support, which also seems pretty lazy when you consider that this was actually also on console originally, with requisite gamepad support. Honestly, I would just play on the fan made servers with an old CD-ROM rather than spend money on this version unless you are desperate to simply own a copy on Steam. IMO anyway.
