Report #13: March-April 2021

I failed to post an update last month and very nearly did so again. Work has gotten busy, and so time for gaming (and writing about it) is now in short supply, unfortunately. In March, my goal was to beat six games for the “Monthly in a Month” event. I finished three - Styx: Master of Shadows, Night Call, and Little Nightmares - before crashing and burning with Hitman. I had been looking forward to Little Nightmares, mostly because of its horror-gorgeous art direction, but was gently let down by clunky mechanics and tedious action challenges. The game is short, but probably about the right length. Any longer and it would have gotten annoying, I bet.

I do like a good stealth game, and Styx had some good elements to it, but in the end, the lack of critical eye in level design made it frustrating at times and often a bit of a slog. Hitman, which I carried over and finished in April, is a vastly better game, with plenty of replayability for those who want to attempt to off their victims in a variety of ways. Not sure I can otherwise condone a game where the “good guys” are a bunch of killers for hire.

Good luck with your assassinations (of backlog games) in May!
