clock tower: rewind
grade: D
oh clock tower: rewind, u had some cute thoughts, and rng to shift the levels (which is kind of the bare minimum to not be a simple VN), but your conrol scheme is garbage, interaction failures are inscrutable, and the gameplay pacing is glacial. its a good job u made 9 endings, so at least u also appeal to the cbt-enthusiasts, and not just the nostalgia-drugged retrogamers.
give it a try if u get it for free, but its definitely not worth the $20 theyre asking for it.
^-PoP win
Its fuggin good, and it features steam play co-op or whatever its called.
grade: A
my one complaint is that they included the achievements for the first DLC (but none of the other DLC's) in the achievement list for the base game. Im marking it completed anyway cuz im an adult and i can do that
^-SG win
Its an early access game, so this beaten might get retroactively unbeaten, but I got to REDACTED so ima count it.
grade: A+
i bought the first one on sale, but havent gotten around to playing it, so the only degree i can compare this to the original is from how the guy i co-op StS2 with goes on about it. But as its own thing i enjoyed it very much. Theres a lot of analogs to Monster Slayers, which I beat for my last update, a couple of which i thought MS implemented better, but many of the things that bugged me abt MS i like the STS2 analog better.
My overall rating is, its worth the money, even in its EA state, and if any of ya'll wanna co-op sometime hmu.
^-Spring Sale
I made progress this month, but between the Sale and my SG wins, not to mention my propensity for hyperfixation, I have fallen further behind.
January February combined post
I beat
I mean, its a deck dueler, but i havent played Slay the Spire, so I cant compare it to the touchstone deck dueler. I enjoyed it alot tho. Theres a couple achievements behind DLC, which is irksome, but whenever that goes on sale I'll prolly completionist this
Some neat mechanics, but its basically just a fancy VN on top of a point and click adventure
Disappointing game. As a former Maniac McGee/Day of the Tentacle player, I had hopes for this. The art style is quaint, at first, but gets boring quick. The puzzles are not engaging. The story could have been pretty good, but its very railroad and the ending basically resolves offscreen.
Started school January, so Im on slow pace, but progress is progress
DECEMBER REPORT
I beat
Darkest Dungeon
118.9 hours, 46 of 120 achievements
it took me WAAAAAY longer than it should have. I really liked it tho. Liable to put a few hundred more hours on it.
I wish theyd made the controls more keyboard-only friendly. its soooo close to being totally navigable that i honestly resent it in a way i wouldnt if it weren’t.
my progress is progress, but my… shall we say, deliberate play style didnt keep up with an unreasonably lucky month
in November i finished
Quantum Break
13.6 hours, 33 of 42 achievements
it was alright i guess. ran like crap on my PC (Potato Computer). felt like a fancy VN more than anything.
BioShock Remastered
26.7 hours, 45 of 65 achievements
pretty okay actually. i still dont think its get-the-tattoo good or anything, but it really perked up as the game progressed.
Cogs
11.9 hours, 6 of 18 achievements
for what it is, its very good. im not a huge fan of what it is, but its fun for when im in the mood for it
and i started to learn how to use BLAEO generator lol
progress
I need to figure out the fancy formatting yall use, but in October I finished:
- Vampire: the Masquerade - Coeteries of New York
– I liked it, i wish more of the choices mattered, but it was a fun little visual novel - The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante
– I liked it even more. Choices mattered and it felt way more like the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Books I enjoy so well. - Styx: Master of Shadows
– This was genuinely great. I suuuuucked at it at first, which made me feel olde, but by the end I was vibing. I def’ly plan to go back and 100% it.
I also got started on Beholder, BioShock Remastered, Distant Worlds: Universe (completed to PA criteria), and Quantum Break.
The only Oct Challenge Me! i finished was Styx: Master of Shadows (on a related note, if anyone has figured out how to get their controller to work on Psychonauts in a Linux environment Id love to hear the details).
All in all, I think it was a pretty solid first month on BLAEO. It was nice to play (and finish some) games that would prolly still be collecting dust. Unfortunately, October was a pretty lucky month for me on SG, so my backlog actually increased lol
