Lazy December Overview

Hello, everyone! *akhem* long time no see ^___^’
It’s been busy month, but I managed to finish few games.

Never Alone

Never Alone + Foxtales DLC

never leave me alone with this game again
8,3 hours playtime, 15 of 19 achievements

First game I ever played with a controller and a big disappointment. I didn’t have much of control problems other people had – I feel like most issues in this regard were results of me being clumsy as usual. I experienced fair share of bugs though, quite a few of them made me restart. Level design didn’t make much sense sometimes – e.g. in some parts of game Nuna could swim without problems, in others she’d instantly drown.

I didn’t like the story and the way it was told – it seems like at least 2 different stories were tucked into one, but without care to connect them together, it felt like there is no “flow” plot-wise between various parts. “Oh, here’s a bear, that is hunting you once in a while, ‘cause you pissed it off, oh, and there is bad man, who destroyed your village and wants bola for reason unknown, oh and since you’re already on adventure why don’t you just stop the storm while you’re at it?” I feel sorry for Inuit children if that’s standard of Inuit storytelling :V

As for educational value, I’m not sure if I’m nitpicking here, because I didn’t like the game in general, but I didn’t like the videos either. I don’t feel like I know more thanks to them and for most of the time it sounded like people reminiscing about “good old times” for the sake of it. I must praise graphics, it fitted the game well. I especially liked etchings. Oh, and the fox, the fox was cute, not cute enough to recommend it though.

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons

bros before hoes
5,4 hours playtime, 12 of 12 achievements

Loved it (maybe it’s exaggeration, but shortly after playing Never Alone, it felt like a masterpiece). I’m still in awe how gameplay aided and enhanced storytelling in this game and made quite a simple story very impactful. Don’t want to throw spoilers, so if you, dear reader, have it in your library and didn’t play it, I highly recommend it. Controller highly recommended.

To The Moon

To The Moon

4,6 hours playtime, 1 of 1 achievements

Nice humour, very well written story, gameplay is nothing special and game wouldn’t lose much without it. I think it might be bit better if there was possibility to choose what happens in the end, instead just watching results of other character’s choice, but once again I don’t want to spoil things for people who hasn’t played it yet, so I won’t dwell more on it. Caution: If you’re easily moved, you might cry while playing.

Richard & Alice

Richard & Alice

Bonnie & Clyde, erm, not really
4,4 hours playtime, 21 of 21 achievements

I’ve read fellow backlog assassin LinusTheBold impressions about the game and were similar enough to mine, so I’ll just leave link here .
The only thing I’d like to nitpick is that I find it hard to believe that 5 and ½ year old kid would make the type of grammar mistakes Barney (Alice’s son) did on regular basis.

Road Not Taken

Road Not Taken

Do you love yourself?
10,9 hours playtime, 13 of 20 achievements

I liked this game very much and I intend to complete it (I’ve only beaten it once so far). It’s rougelike puzzle mix with bittersweet, sometimes dark, sometimes with sarcastic undertones “story” about life. I highly recommend it.

The Walking Dead: Michonne

The Walking Dead: Michonne

Machete vs Zombies and People

Snatched the key from one of Deer’s gibs (Thank you, dear Deer).
I’ve been disappointed a bit in this game. It’s too short to feel connected enough to care about characters. Well, at least I’ve learnt how the name Michonne is pronounced :D
I feel like (I might be wrong) that it has more QTE’s than previous Telltale games, they are well made, but due to shortness of the episodes it made me often go “oh, not this thing again D:”. Music from the game got stuck in my head and I’m not sure if I’m okay with it.

Not Finished

  • Batman: Arkham Origins
    Batman: Arkham Origins

    7,8 hours playtime

Last Inua – another Inuit themed game, I got stuck in first temple and I doubt I have motivation to beat it.
Batman Arkham Origins – got Batman games as Xmas present, just started this one, I like it so far, even though I’m terrible at it :3

New Year’s Resolutions

  1. Play games people gave to me
