2018 Final Report

Well, I haven't posted in a while. The last few months have been pretty busy. We bought a house at the beginning of October, lots of house chaos, holidays, vacation, etc. I've also started a 40,320 piece puzzle (yes, that number is right) and finally got a local board game group.

On Steam, I've hit my 1200 and 1300 100%s milestones since I last posted, the latter of which being my traditional one on Christmas Eve. Looking back, I've increased my Average % by 10% in each of the last two years! Next year, I'll be happy with just 3%. :P

860K Achievements / 89% Avg. / 1200 Perfect - Oct 1, 2018

930K Achievements / 1300 Perfect / 90% Avg. - Dec 24, 2018

Here are my highlights over the last three months (all of which I've nominated for January's theme!):

NITE Team 4

32.4 hours, 14 of 14 achievements
October Highlight -- Hacking Simulator/ARG

More

This is an hacking simulator/'ARG' just released into Early Access (with very frequent updates). I have everything from this dev (except soundtracks and the network admin dlc) and I've been watching this game for a long time. To be honest, I feel like I should love it more than I actually do, but I do like it. I think part of that - being a game that is technically very good, but doesn't inspire emotional passion - is that it's realistic, which makes it kind of emotionally unfriendly. It makes me feel uneasy about the ethics of what it asks you to do sometimes (but hey, you have a job to do) and bewildered at 'what is this world we live in now'. By which I mean, on every mission (and also in Discord discussions), they link to real world technologies, and it kind of astonishes and terrifies me.

We Were Here Too

3.8 hours, 20 of 20 achievements
November Highlight -- Cooperative Escape

More

This is the sequel to the free-to-play We Were Here, and is basically more of the same thing. It's an asymmetrical co-op game where you need to communicate with your partner (who is in a different part of the castle) to work through simple puzzles and escape.

Into the Breach

31.5 hours, 55 of 55 achievements
December Highlight -- Turn-Based Strategy/Puzzle

More

This isn't the sort of game I usually play, but it's by the devs of FTL, so it went on my wishlist. I won it on SteamGifts on Christmas and blazed right through it. The squads are all very different. My favorite squads were the Hazardous Mechs (high damage + self damage), Frozen Titans (freezing), and Rusting Hulks (cloud disrupt/dot). I had the most trouble by far with the Steel Judokas (enemy manipulation), where I barely won on my last bit of power. Might go back in more this month to try out the secret squad and see if I can get the two other secret pilots.

In January, I'm looking forward to getting into LEGO Lord of the Rings and/or Hobbit (both from mass giveaways in the last couple weeks), as well as TRI: Of Friendship and Madness (Christmas gift). Also thinking about doing a personal theme again this year, like the 'From Years Past' I did in 2016 and I definitely want to get back into participating in community themes. Maybe Opus Magnum and/or Rakuen for Community Picks?

Wow, it’s kinda crazy that you regularly manage to sync those stats for the milestone screenshots that can be seen in your posts! I like your dedication! :D

I’m getting close to 100 perfects myself, so I’ll soon need to start thinking about working on a similar thing ;)
