Assassin's Creed® Odyssey

86 hours, 50 of 93 achievements

This was my first-ever Assassin's Creed game, and from what I've heard, it was very different from previous ones--so I'm not sure if I'll go back and play earlier games. That being said, I loved Odyssey. I'm already kind of familiar with Greek mythology, so the lore in the game wasn't very hard to grasp, and I loved playing as Kassandra. I think one of the main reasons I enjoyed Odyssey as much as I did is Kassandra. It was so much fun playing as her, and I really like her character design & the voice acting was also pretty good.

Other characters were also great. I really liked seeing Socrates and he's as annoying as he would've been when he was alive. My memory is a bit hazy, but if I'm not wrong, Socrates was the one who's dialogues go something like this:
Socrates: argument and a question
Random Person: You're right, Socrates.
S: another question
RP: That's correct.
S: long ass explanation
RP: Yes. It would be.
And to see a similar thing in game where Kassandra is annoyed by his questions and explanations half the time was fun for me, as a student who had to read some of Socrates' surviving thoughts and notes.

There's one particular cutscene where Socrates and Barnabas are extreme badasses and it was one of the best moments in the game.
I also liked some of the other characters, but Alkibiades is something else. His endless flirting was pretty fun to watch (and participate, at times).

I was aware that Assassin's Creed games featured real people as characters (I knew about Machiavelli, for example) but seeing it and being part of it was better than I'd expected. It's also probably because I'm so familiar with some of the people and the mythology. -- not sure if I would enjoy it the same if it was another Assassin's Creed game (for example Origins, though I'm teeny tiny bit familiar with Ancient Egypt). Either way, it was a great gaming experience for me.

One more thing: I really liked seeing a line from Sappho in the Lesbos island mission. Granted it's a pretty well-known line. But I think that piece of poetry is pretty interesting to think about and I was really delighted to see it in the game.

I finished the main game with 97% since I was bored while doing the 'Lost Tales of Greece' missions. They're not part of the main game play so I consider them as 'optional'. Maybe eventually I'll go back and finish those.

I'm also looking forward to replaying it in the future in hard mode. (I played in easy since it was my first time playing such a game and I wanted to experience the story as well.) That being said, I'm not sure if I should go for the Season Pass. Is it worth the money?

Bonus: My partner who is a big Assassin's Creed fan didn't like Odyssey at all. It's apparently 'not much of an AC game'. But since this is my first-ever AC game, I'm personally not bothered by this lack of . . . AC-ness.
