Two-Week Report: September

Half-Life 2
Never Played -> Beaten

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Masterwork, worth the wait. Extremely difficult. Too hard for casuals? Patches in progress might change this.

Too early for a full review. Maybe when the game is a bit older than a week and people have had their chance to play it.

Too hard for casuals?

Yes. I am a casual and would never attempt this game. Kudos to you for being able to beat it.

What am I missing here? Why not -7?

I feel like I could recommend Hollow Knight to casuals looking to get into harder games. I remember it easing into the difficulty much more than Silksong, but it has been five years so maybe I’m tripping. Silksong does feel like it picks up where Hollow Knight’s difficulty left off a lot of the time, though, with some questionable decisions made to get there. Gave me a similar vibe to SMB2/Lost Levels in that respect. The target audience will enjoy it (and I did), and there’s more to love about the game than just the gameplay, so it’ll probably still get a massive following, but as-is, it’s not as accessible as Hollow Knight. Not without “quality of life” mods, anyway. ;)

As for the numbers, I’m purging most of the free games added to my Steam library (that, if I’m being honest, I’ll probably never play anyway) to de-clutter it. So 8 games were added, -1 because one of them was Silksong, then -15 more games. So although I bought more games than I finished in the past two weeks, the total number of ‘never played’ games still went down by 8. Not exactly an achievement, and I’ll never finish the backlog if every week is like this, but the number still goes down this time.

I see…your numbers make more sense, now. If anything, I should have though the number should be +7 (8 purchased minus 1 completed). So with removing 15 games, -8 now makes sense. :)
