Report #28: July-December + 2022 Afterword

New Year’s Eve and my first post in six months. I haven’t had much free time and consequently haven’t played much. It’s alright, I don’t mind.

Metro Exodus which I finished in July was probably my favorite game played in 2022. I also enjoyed Yakuza 0, but at 76 hours to finish, it was way too long for my tastes. I expect 2023 to shape up similar to how 2022 ended, so I’ll try to focus on titles I really want to play. I’ll keep going with Fallout 4 and will start The Wolf Among Us. After that, who knows!

Wishing all you assassins an excellent new year. Stay frosty.

Congratulations on all your assassinations and happy new year!! Metro exodus was you most favorited game? I’ve typically avoided it because I’m a huge coward and dislike jump scares but now i’m curious. What game are you most looking forward to playing in 2023?

Happy New Year to you too! Yeah, Metro Exodus was really good. It’s an interesting series - Metro 2033 seems like a 12-year old boy’s vision of a post-apocalyptic world: mostly underground, a dialog that’s 90% “shit” and “motherfucker”, lots of guns and gore, demons and dragons, and telepathic alien encounters to boot. Metro Last Light is slightly more grown up, like the 12-year old has turned 15 and discovered girls. Still mostly underground, still violent. Some gratuitous nude scenes, but a bit more grown up dialog. And then Metro Exodus is the adult in the series with themes like disillusionment and deception, but also hope and redemption. I like that it’s predominantly set outdoors with a lot less horror-y feel to it - the monsters are most often our fellow man. No jump scares that I can remember. In fact it reminds me a lot of one of my favorite games all time: Half-Life 2.
As I mentioned, I’m currently playing Fallout 4 and The Wolf Among Us; for the months ahead I’m eyeing Baldur’s Gate, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, Far Cry 3, and Wasteland 2. Given my rate of play, that should take me into next fall at least!
