September 2026 Report!
This month was filled with quite a lot of inconveniences; internet problems, two different kind of diseases, and world doing some weird crappy things as usual. Yet, I remain silly! Oh and yeah I also played games.
After playing Crimes & Punishments, I got an appetite for more! Unlike Crimes & Punishments, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is more a Point & Click adventure mixed with deduction/investigation mechanics. Likely the same with other Sherlock games pre-C&P. It’s still a good game!
Though I wouldn’t recommend it as your first Sherlock Holmes game. Sherlock acts like a huge jerk in this one due to plot reasons, which is a little jarring coming from C&P where he can stand for the little guys. Story is told well however! And it has 3 modes on how you can control your character: Third person, first person, and classic P&C style controls. Not necessary but a neat addition.
I also like to note that Watson acts very hammy in this one :p My favriote lines being “Holmes stole my wallet!” and “Oh no! Holmes, you made me an accomplice!”. Gave me a chuckle.
Hooked on You is more aimed at Dead by Daylight players, but me with my surface-level knowledge still enjoyed it! Quite funny and well-written, with nice art!
A little buggy though; achievements for getting all bad/good endings didn’t trigger which prevented the game from showing bonus scenes. Had to replay and skip a couple routes for it to unlock.
A Building Full of Cats got a remake and one new achievement so did a replay! Did an achievement hunt on Peak as well with the help of my friends <3
I was a playtester for Nighthawks, and now that it’s released I can mark it as Beaten! It’s also now my third most-played game on Steam. Probably shouldn’t surprise you to know that I enjoyed it a lot! Very well-written, with nice characters, stories, atmosphere and soundtrack.
Will replay once more! Missing some achievements, and want to try some options I didn’t pick before.
Had a lot of fun with The Lamplighters League! It’s by Harebrained Schemes which also made the Shadowrun trilogy, one of my favorites!
As I expected from them, story’s good and characters are written very well! Each is complex, voiced, and have a ton of lines and hideout conversations. Gameplay is like an updated version of Shadowrun’s turn-based system, with the addition of real-time stealth mechanics. There are covers, Action Points/AP, abilities, and such. Each character has their own gear and skill tree, and a card system for extra abilities and buffs. Stealth could be done better however, there is no option to move between covers without standing up and being seen for example. And it’s also a little buggy here and there, once the game even softlocked.
But its shortcomings aside, it was the most fun experience I had this month!
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan was a little underwhelming at first, but on replays I started to appreciate it more! Lots of variations for scenes and choices, with nice performance by actors and actresses. And enough content to see and play a couple times more.
Could uses more polish though; face animations are a little stiff at times, and it has some bugs.
One minor gripe I have is how easy it is to lock yourself into a very anticlimactic finale. In 4 playthroughs I did, 3 of them ended with “Matters of the Heart”, a very underwhelming finale compared to “Flooded” which even has two unique variants! Add an abrupt ending (though it can be less abrupt with some choices) and you’ll have a unsatisfying way to end the game.
One small thing I liked is the addition of Bonus Features, which has 3 videos regarding the game and its development and two prequel comics. I like it when games have extras!
Still, enjoyed it enough to add Little Hope to October’s gaming plan!
Never thought how non-linear roguelike storytelling can be until I played Trinity Fusion.
First thing’s first: Narrative is botched. It’s like the game reads you the first two pages of a book and then skips forward to Chapter 3. Details and plot are skipped or not told at all. Since this issue happens at the start of the game, it pretty much affects the whole plot. For example, if you die at the start (which will happen, because it’s a roguelike!) it will skip most of intros, and just assume you somehow know what’s going on. Two other playable characters won’t be properly introduced at all. It also will let you reach the final boss without returning you to Hub level to see critical plot events. So you will reach it, say “What? How did that happen?”, possibly die and then the game will show you how that turned out.
At least it will give you weaker weapons and make bosses do more damage, but why go the extra mile when it can just, return you to Hub after story milestones. You can also make some very powerful builds which negates all those debuffs I mentioned.
Gameplay’s pretty good however! Lots of synergies, abilities, a good amount of weapons and it overall feels satisfying. Enemies are varied and bosses are challenging. Story’s decent too once you get past all the confusion.
Room randomization is very poor sadly. Levels will start to look identical very fast.
Enjoyed Void Bastards too, another roguelike! Not much in terms of story but the humor is very funny. Gameplay loop is very satisfying as well! And the game keeps being difficult but balanced until the end. It can get a little repetitive though.
Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 1 and 2 refused to launch. Spent two hours troubleshooting to no avail. Oh well, into Won’t Play they go.
