can I request a 10 page review of e33? (jk jk lol, but did you like it?)
10 pages? It would deffo include spoilers tho o.o
It might also help me put in words the… things I feel about this game. Bc yes, I like it. But it didn’t click for me like it did for a lot of other ppl. I think I mainly blame this on the world, not the story or the characters - altho yes, it doesn’t really help when the apparent MC dies isn’t working for you, bc she just keeps going on your nerves -.-
The thing it… SPOILERS AHEAD! - the world is a kids world. In itself that wouldn’t be an issue really, but the fixation of the adults on this world is what makes this so twisted for me. How it got turned into something bigger and more dangerous. How everything is overhyped and overpainted - pun intended? I get the trouble they all have and that they try coping. But they turn something beautiful into something disgusting on the way.
Then there is the internal conflict about the… MC (?). Bc on the one side it’s obv an adult. With adult experience, views and mindset. But on the other hand it’s… just a kid. Stuck in a loop. In a body. In a situation. Forced into this life to be something for other ppl, that he shouldn’t be. No way out. No way to be himself.
Which leads to the end: Forcing him to live a life he doesn’t even want or burn it all to the ground. No, the end is not so much about her for me. While, yes it is on the surface. But is it really?
So yeah, I love it. It’s beaituful af. It’s deep. The battles are challenging -. sometimes too much in my book - but… but I have issues with it. Doesn’t make it less a GOTY for me tho. Bc it makes me think and question. Bc it’s awesomely written. But so fucking broken, to even imagine ppl would handle a situation that way. I dunno, man.
yeah that was unexpected, Gustave was such a great character, it was heartbreaking. Though it gave Painted Renoir so much aura, what an incredible ‘villain’, that cane thump always had me stressing while at the same time knowing that I was about to experience peak.
I see what you mean though. The way they all try to cope in different ways, ultimately destroying what was once a nice memory of Verso is really quite depressing. Painted Verso is a completely different person, and like you said with the end, I would agree with it being more than just about Maelle/Alicia . However, I feel like your issue with the world is what makes the game so profound. The grief feels so realistic and shows us how flawed and different people are, what they’re capable of when they’re so broken. Imo it’s the best story I’ve ever experienced in a video game.
They might actually have lost me a bit, when they killed Gustave. Like I was seriously mad about it the rest of the evening. Not sad or what ever, just mad, that they’d do that.
As I said: I get it. I totally do. It just… didn’t do the same thing for me xD
But I’m glad you liked it as much <3
