How did you like Mutant Year Zero? I’ve had it on my wishlist for years now but never pulled the trigger on buying it.
It’s really not much different from an x-com game when it comes to gameplay. I liked x-com, so it was easy to like this one too.
The only major difference is that in x-com you could save-scum. Meaning that if the dices weren’t on your side (i.e. you shoot and you miss the shot let’s say) you could simply reload and hope in a better outcome. In this game instead you can’t really do that, if you reload and try to take the same action, you’ll get the same outcome as the first time, so in that sense it’s much more unforgiving and requires you to properly strategize beforehand, even at lower difficulties. Once you get and upgrade the stronger weapons, though, and/or use the skill that lets you heal by feeding on corpses (aka without using medkits), it gets much easier.
The only complaint I have with the game is with the ending, it felt a bit underwhelming.
Interesting, thanks for the detailed breakdown!

Is clicking on the banners supposed to do something? I’m getting a hand icon, but no action. Clicking on the game icons works.
Just curious what you thought of Catherine Classic and maybe Superliminal.
No, clicking there doesn’t do anything at the moment; just the pictures have a link. I used to write short reviews in the past and you could make them appear by clicking on the banners. I didn’t remove the cursor change from the code I keep copy-pasting in the hope that sooner or later I would come back and write the reviews I miss. But almost a year went by since I last did that. I should stop fooling myself and fix it for good, yeah…
Superliminal was very easy to like. The clever perspective based puzzles and the Portal style narration were a good combination in my opinion.
As for Catherine Classic, I enjoyed the puzzle part, it posed a good challenge, most of all at mid-game, but I found it a bit repetitive by the end. I didn’t particularly like the story, instead. How the protagonist often doesn’t speak up and doesn’t express any of his thoughts to his girlfriend was a bit unnerving at times. He kind of redeems himself at the end, though. Still a positive experience as a whole.
Gotcha; understood. I haven’t played either but have both in my alt’s backlog.
