August & September because like is like a hurricane

2026 August

Hadn’t had too much time to play, was away for more than a week visiting Montenegro (Kotor) with my girlfriend and his father. It was really nice, I’ve only visited Croatia from the region previously!

Cargo Commander

Ooooold SG win from Naniwa

A game that I may have enjoyed more back in the day. It’s an early-i9sh indie game, that’s flirting with the roguelite mechanics, but ends up doing painfully little.
In the game you’re a Cargo Commander - attracting abandoned cargo crates to your ship, fight/drill yourself through the chain of them (that creates a dungeon - with changing gravity!), collect items for the Corporation, get a System Pass to be able to unlock another system, leave, get points, rinse and repeat.
The problem is that the game is SUPER small. You have a melee attack, one starting nailgun and 3 other weapon types, ammo for them, and your armor (health). You can upgrade these, and your speed. You unlock permanent progression by getting more and more TYPES of items. That requires you to grind through systems/dungeons as you can only get 4-5 types of items in systems. That are generated based on seeds… so prepare to check the guides and find working systems so you’re not blindly stumbling through system after system to find a [broken disc]. You get upgrades with enough items found that save you [in-run currency], but it leaves your runs exactly the same. All levels being randomly based on seeds means there is no difficulty progression, the game even gets easier with your upgrades. It’s basically the same after your 3rd run.

Finally 100%’d the game, it was a lot of fun after I learned to take fewer risks, and got to know the game more.

Bloody Spell

Oh boy, it was a weird game, played for a The Giveaways Club challenge. It’s… an interesting game. Very slappy-sloppy, the combat is both floaty and inaccurate and over the top at the same time. It’s a solid B/C category game if you’re craving that, but it’s not recommendation-worthy on its own.

The Dark Queen of Mortholme

Ooooold SG win from VenomousNyx

The Dark Queen of Mortholme is a Dark Souls Boss Simulator where the hero constantly returns (stronger) to kill you, while discussing/debating your claimed immortality. You unlock more skills as the game progresses, but even at its highest, the game is a onescreen game with you having 4 attacks, the hero avoiding most of your attacks unless you chain them perfectly. Extremely short, the philosophy is not exactly original, and you can technically just rotate your skills from a forum guide to win. Die, and you have to repeat the same 15ish minutes to get further / win.

Occultus - Mediterranean Cabal

TBH this is just another Hidden Object game, not really an outstanding one either.

2026 September

Gaming slowed down mid-august as my (ex) girlfriend broken up… we had our issues, but things didn’t seem to really improve in the past year. Yet she claimed the decision came one day out of the blue sky, even for her.
It’s likely for the best, before it turned actively bad.

So September was a thin month, much to do, much to think about, not much mood to play

Escape From Mystwood Mansion

Cool puzzle game, basically a chain of escape room puzzles. Also for a The Giveaways Club challenge. Quite short, the chapter select helps, it’s fun.

Vanquish

Quite old gift from Cjcomplex.
Heard a lot of good things about it, by 2026 it’s an interesting, not always positive, mix of things. It feels very Kojima-coded, while it isn’t. It’s a Platinum game and it has some cool enemies and bosses, but most of the gameplay is guns. And you have surprisingly small control over what weapons you have available, you can lose your upgraded weapon levels if you don’t restart a level, just from a checkpoint… It’s not overly punishing on the normal difficulty, it’s just a few weird choices that feels like they’re pushing back. But knowing Platinum games, (the option for) hunting for the higher ranks it’s not super surprising. It was a cool experience, I’m just not super big fan of third person shooters. The special ones, despite having some gameplay or narrative gimmicks (Vanquish or Spec Ops: The Line), they are still just standard third person shooters 85% of the time, despite trying to be something else.

It was interesting, but to be honest, not much more. It has its own annoying sections, and some great ideas, but it’s insane how popular and known this game got while offering relative little of what I’d expect of it. Characters and dialogues are good and interesting, but it absolutely failed to really land with me.
And because of its many, MANY chapters and non-linearity, most unique and interesting set pieces last only for 20-30 seconds, most of the game being a walking sim.
