October 2026

Posting earlier than normal since I’m planning on just watching horror movies until the end of the month. I don’t think I’ll be beating any more games for October. Also one real life update. I finally upgraded my PC and bought a new monitor. I went from an i3-6100 to a Ryzen 5 5600X (for some reason, the X version was cheaper than the non-X version). My main monitor went from an AOC M2060SW (MVA, 60Hz, 19 inch) to an LG 24U411A-B (IPS, 120Hz, 24 inch), with the AOC now being a second monitor. My GPU (GTX 1660 SUPER) is still the same, but the CPU upgrade really improved the FPS I was getting. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, for example, I couldn’t play without unplayable stutters before even at 720p + the lowest settings. Now I can run it at max settings, 1080p, and it’s still giving me 60+ FPS. I think I might play that on December but we’ll see, I want to rewatch the original trilogy first because I barely remember them and then watch the prequel movies because I haven’t watched those yet.

Anyway, onto the video games I’ve beaten this month.

Not Tonight (100% - first review): I was really hoping I’d like it a bit more, but I don’t think my opinions of the game changed that much. It’s just so repetitive. I still think the game would’ve been better if it wasn’t around 90 days. This should’ve been a 5-7 hours game at most, not 12 hours. I am glad that I finally got the good ending though (the endings weren’t that different with each other. It was more so a mild annoyance from my end), and I think the dialogues were funnier than I initially gave them credit for. I didn’t even mention the dialogues during my first review. Still a 4/10 for me.

Alien: Isolation: So far, this has been the scariest video game I’ve ever played. I’m not sure what else I can say about this game. I think it aged well. It didn’t feel like a 12 year old game. I guess except for the pre-rendered cutscenes that looked bad and was locked to 30fps. The story was also pretty boring. It’s really just you trying to escape the place. The “characters” were also rather bland and I don’t remember feeling attached to any of them. But they did a great job with the horror aspect. The Xenomorphs were terrifying and the androids were also scary. The humans didn’t really scare me that much, same thing with the facehuggers. I think it’s because you can kill them easily and I figured out that (kind of spoils a mechanic for the enemy I put on the spoiler tag above) the facehuggers seemed to be scripted. Either way, 10/10, very much looking forward to Alien: Isolation 2.

The Quarry: I love this game, but they rushed the ending. It was very abrupt and anticlimatic. You don’t even see the characters reunite in the end, it’s just a slideshow. I wish they gave the other characters more screentime as well. I think one of the best parts in this game are the characters and their dynamics with one another, but it sucks that they didn’t give us more of that. I think the story changed when they introduced Laura. I wouldn’t say it got worse, it’s more so that they started to neglect the other characters ever since that chapter. I still liked it, it’s just different and I wish the game didn’t just become about these two characters (Laura and Ryan, but at least Laura’s a great character).

For the story itself, I liked it, I was curious and eager to know what was happening so I’d say they did the job well with that (just really wish the ending was more satisfying). It was a bit predictable at times though. Like I was able to catch the game’s red herrings pretty easily, and I’m usually pretty easy to fool and I’m not really that good at figuring out what the plot twist of a story is before it’s revealed. QTEs were also ridiculously easy. I didn’t have a hard time with them at all but I did learn later on that you can actually make it harder in the settings if you want to. I’m giving this game an 8/10. I’d have given it a 10/10 if they had nailed the ending but it’s just so bad, though it’s not bad enough that it ruined my entire experience. And also if we had more time with the characters, especially Kaitlyn and Dylan (the game’s best characters alongside Travis and Laura IMO). I do feel like when I eventually try to 100% it, I might get over the non-existent ending and give this game a 10/10. I really did enjoy it. It’s just the lack of proper ending that is pissing me off.

Control: I didn’t like this game as much as I was hoping to, but I think part of it is my fault. I didn’t really read most of the notes early on. There were a lot of them and I didn’t want to spend my playthrough on just reading. By the time I realized most of the story explanation are in the notes, I just didn’t care as much at that point. The story was just really confusing and I still don’t really get what happened in it. There are some pretty cool sequences in this game, like the Maze where a metal song was playing as you go through it. I really loved that part. I think I’ll like the game more once I understand what is happening. As for the gameplay, it was fun but got a bit repetitive especially when you realized throwing stuff is the most OP power. I’m giving this game a 6/10 for now. I only played the base game but I think I want to replay this game after I finish Alan Wake 1, and I’ll do the DLCs then. There’s an Alan Wake DLC in this game and I’ve read that it spoils the Alan Wake game a bit.

Cuphead (first review): Finally beat it. I think I really just needed to take a break and drop the game for a few weeks. I’m mostly just gonna talk about what I actually played this month. Beating King Dice and the Devil took me 3-4 hours. I didn’t find King Dice’s mini bosses as hard as before. I didn’t bother perfecting my dice rolls, I just stuck with whatever mini boss I get and eventually learned how to fight all of them. King Dice himself wasn’t that hard. I think constantly doing the mini bosses really improved my parrying skills. The Devil was a bit disappointing and underwhelming. I felt more satisfaction with beating Dr. Kahl than him. I still think the the majority of the game was great. It was really just the last three bosses that I didn’t really like that much (Dr. Kahl, King Dice, and the Devil). I think for me, Dr. Kahl felt more like what I expected for the final boss in terms of difficulty. I really struggled against him. I’m giving this game a 7/10. I don’t think I’ll be doing the DLC yet, I have some other games I want to play for now.

Until Dawn Remake (off-Steam): Way scarier than The Quarry. I was actually surprised with how scary it was. The QTEs were also harder. I also appreciated seeing Hayden Panettiere in the game. I knew she was in it, but I didn’t expect she was the main female character. Speaking of the characters, I never really got attached to them. I feel like they made them too unlikeable in the beginning so I didn’t start to like them later on even if they became better. They also just felt kind of boring/bland besides for Josh. I do think that objectively speaking, this game was better than TQ (had a better story structure + scary + better gameplay + actually had a damn ENDING instead of whatever we got in TQ), but for me, characters matter a lot more so I still prefer The Quarry. There is one other thing in this game that I didn’t like that much but I’m keeping it here in the end because it’s huge spoilers. The Wendigo twist. I preferred the game when it was a slasher. I kind of stopped being scared when they revealed who the Psycho was. The Wendigos didn’t scare me at all. Anyway. 7/10.

SOMA (replay): I really love this game. It’s one of my favorite video games of all time. It’s been ~3 years since I’ve first beaten it, but I still think about it every now and then (to be fair, I do replay it frequently). The story just really hit me. It is pretty much about personal identity and what it means to be yourself. The characters were also great, even the ones that you only meet through “datamining” stuff and reading documents/logs. I thought the voice acting was amazing too. I especially liked Catherine’s. I love her conversations with Simon, especially whenever she tries to comfort him and you can tell she REALLY does not know what to say. I think her VA really did a great job on making her sound awkward without making her sound flat and boring. There are also some really scary enemies but honestly, I just play this game on safe mode (enemies aren’t hostile to you but you can still die) so I can focus on the story. The thalassophobia and existential crisis I get whenever I play this game scares me enough lol. 10/10.

Shady Parts of Me (DROPPED after ~1.65h - the rest of my time were prior card idling): I think the puzzles were interesting. It’s kind of cool that you play both in 2d and 3d. But it’s just not clicking for me. Every time I boot it up, I just become so bored. I think it is partly because the story is not moving me at all and I just couldn’t care less about what is happening. I don’t know if I’ll actually try to play this game again but for now, I’m putting it in the “won’t play” list.

Goals for November 2026

I’m at episode 3 for Alan Wake Remastered. I’m liking it so far. At the very least, I like its story way more than my first playthrough of Control. Once I finish it, I’ll try and replay Control.
