Let’s see… overall I enjoyed it. What I liked the most was exploring the world (particularly at the beginning) and a few of the boss fights. I wouldn’t say it’s hard like a souls like, though. I mean, I had problems with just 2 world bosses (wolf maiden I’m looking at you), but I managed after 2/3 hours of learning-through-death practice.
The real weak part was the missions and the storytelling in general. Too many generic fetch quests and when it comes down to storytelling, it is borderline nonsense to me. Even when considering the main story line. I stopped caring after a while.
Btw I focused mostly on following the main campaign and beating most of the bosses available at the moment.
Thank you for your answer, so maybe more like Monster Hunter ? Did it play it entirely solo ?
I am always both fascinated and fearful when it comes to this type of game. Fascinated by the graphic quality and exoticism. Fearful because it’s free, so i always wonder how it’s financed, like do you pay this game with your money or is it with your time ? So i prefer to watch this sort of games from afar ! Still the atmosphere, very typical of ancient China, is fascinating to look at.
I played completely solo yeah, with the exception of the “ghosts” of other players that autojoin your boss fights when you’re close to death (but I think you can disable that; I didn’t bother cause it doesn’t happen all the times and they are hardly any help. If I’m close to die, I usually die ^^” That’s on me though, because I didn’t bother to upgrade my healing flasks)
I get why you’re fearful, though, I was too. As a matter of fact I usually stir away from MMOs, F2Ps, and such games. But when I saw the overall positive reviews, that you can play solo and that most of the transactions are for cosmetics, I decided to give it a try and I didn’t regret it. In the 40 or so hours I played I basically just followed the main story line, I had to level up a bit and explore more (a bit of grind I guess) in order to get access to higher level quests a pair of times, but it didn’t take much time/effort. And the last 10 hours were dedicated to world boss fights.
I watched some gameplay videos, it looks fascinating and well conceived including the boss fights. And 46h is already a lot of fun, i understand that time flew by for you ! Thanks a lot for your detailed answer and pointing out this game, if i had no immediate backlog, i would totally run trying it just for fun too.
Among not immediate backlog i’ve this one to finish : Xuan Yuan 7
Much less beautiful, certainly much easier (not a souls-like), but from what i started it was fun and well written.
Oh a chinese game, a rare one here ! Did you enjoy it ? Was it really hard like a dark-souls like ?
