Aquilla

Finished in November (1-5)

After getting lazy for 2 months, I’m going back with my reports. Even if most of the games were a bit mediocre.

I LOVE this kind of games. It’s a story in postapocalyptic world, but I’m calling this “calm postapocalypse”. Something happen, but it was long enough, that people organised themself, and just live in this new world. And honestly seem quite happy. Every person is going through a ritual when they are becoming an adult - they need to go to travel the world, meet people, and find what they really want to do with their life. And that’s all. No thread, you are not saving the world, you are just female teenager who is searching for a good job for her in this society. You are collecting quests, completing them, and in the end you will decide, which activities you liked the most, and well, that’s your future. I love those slow paced games, when you are just exploring, participate in little stories, getting to know the lore of the world, without a grand plot. And I didn’t play such a good example of this type of game, since Eastshade 2 years ago.

Little 3D adventure game, with very vague story. The main premise is that you need to find colours of the world, and if you find them you can switch them on and off, and show and hise some parts of the world. It was nice, but my main problem was - the stuff was too hidden - a few times I got stuck, because I completely missed a prompt to use or pick something.

Very small platformer game - no story, no cutscens, only gameplay. The premise is simple - every move is made by a grapling hook - you are catching the nearest wall in any direction you choose and flying in straight line to it. You can change direction in mid air, but this is requiring good reflex. Honestly it feels like a dexterity version of Sokoban. It is quite challenging - I beat it, but I died many times. Fortunately levels are little, so it is not a big problem.

So…. this game is trying to teach me about astronomy and physics, and that’s ok, I like learning. But the way it is trying to do… basically the gameplay looks like this: you are going through the island, you are finding a chapter of a book. You are reading this chapter, and then you have myst-style riddle which is checking your knowledge. I love reading, and I would propably gladly read the whole book by itself but sorry - reading looong textes in games is just bad - it is ruining the pacing. And the book in the end is over 200 pages long. Also - the game just looks bad - with blurry textures and constant popping of stuff on your eyes. The cliffhanger ending is not helping either.

Standard little 2D adventure game. The graphic is very nice, but the story is scetchy - I understand it, but there are moments where clearly I should feel emotions, but I don’t because they didn’t introduce characters properly. The riddles are ok. Some of them had a bit of moon logic, but the hint system is helpful, most of the times.
