Couple games are in the books:

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified + Code Breakers DLC: I initially bought this for the PS3 sometime close to its release, but I never really got too far into it, and it was one of those games I always planned to revisit, which I just did. Took me about 13 hours all told to complete the campaign and all side missions + the Code Breakers DLC (which is really just another side mission). I’m guessing there are several potential endings based on a couple choices you have to make late game. Personally, I chose to save our boy and let the director become attached to the “demon”. Anyway, I had fun with this game.

It’s definitely a game most closely resembling Mass Effect 2, but stripped down. Just about everything outside of the story is the similar, from abilities to combat, cover and command, etc….Which is not a bad thing. If anything, it made The Bureau more approachable IMO. I thought the end choices and especially the final mission, were odd and a bit inconsistent with the message of the game through most of it, but outside of that, everything was good. Not great, but good. I would note that much like ME2, The Bureau holds up just fine against today’s gaming standards, from graphics to audio to gameplay. You can definitely tell it is an older game, but literally nothing is so out of place that it looked or felt awkward today. Worth giving a go if you’ve never played it before. I did decide to wait on playing the other DLC, which is basically just a horde mode.

The Legend of Bum-bo: was also fun. If you loved Isaac, you’ll probably love Bum-bo despite Bum-bo being a match 4 rather than a twin stick shooter. That said, there came a point where I felt the RNG was just too much to contend with (right about the time I almost finished chapter 4 but died due to a bad board. The first time you finish a chapter, it is game over, but unlocks the next Bum-bo and the next chapter. Anyway, fun game, but desperately needs better balancing and maybe a bit more variety as well.

Desert of Vice: is a text based visual novel with some point and click elements. It is also a Lovecraftian game with several outcomes. So far, I’ve finished endings 1,4, and 5. I still have 2 and 3 and 6 (and maybe that’s it?) to go. It’s written in somewhat pulpy horror fashion, and since everything is text based, this is a keyboard only game with some potentially funny outcomes for streamers, although each question or puzzle only really has a few available true options. I think this was like a buck when I bought it, and it definitely has more value than that lol. I’ve enjoyed it so far. One note: you will mostly be flying blind, as there aren’t really any guides and such, so if you are wanting to get all the cheevos, it will probably take a bit of trial and error.

Retired

One Deck Dungeon: This actually has all the hallmarks of a great game, and maybe one day I will unretire it, but for now, the UI was just too busy and maybe too complicated for this old and slow mind lol.

The Legend of Bum-bo: How can this be finished and retired all at once? Well, I’ve completed the game three times inasmuch as the game format provides, but I’m not willing to keep on going until a patch is forthcoming, which I’m sure it will be. I’ll unretire it then for sure as I like the game.

GRIS: Very pretty but not very fun. IMO.

Pato Box: I’m just terrible at this game for whatever reason. It’s actually kind of awesome though with the noir graphics and tight gameplay. I’m just not great at figuring out the patterns for what are essentially QTE sequences, or at least, I don’t have the patience for them when they are especially long.

What’s Next?

Finally wrap up Days Gone and start Red Dead Redemption 2, most likely.

Arbiter Libera

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

Interesting. I heard nothing but people ranting about how subpar it was, possibly due to not living up to X-Com brand or because they were comparing to Gears of War and Mass Effect. One day I’ll get around to it.
