Well I seem to have slipped early keeping up with my backlog assassinating so let’s step right back into it since I finally finished beating Doom (well the Campaign on Hurt Me Plenty). I also destroyed many blocks in Zup! and completed it last month (easy game for achievements)

Brutal fun. Really that does a decent job of summing up Doom’s campaign. I did end up taking a sizable break for awhile playing one or two levels every once in awhile until yesterday I decided to make a final push to finish off the campaign. (Honestly I blame Rocket League for always distracting me away from my backlog) It felt more like an arena fps then the original Doom series where each section would be closed off until you killed every last demon in the section you were in. These kill them all sections quickly started feeling like crowded deathmatch arenas as they were usually large enough to keep moving around in and they always felt like a victory as you beat them. I think this possibly turned me off slightly because it made the game feel like you were just moving through the level to get to the next arena to fight more waves of enemies. It still felt like Doom but more like if Doom and Quake 3 Arena had a really violent baby together. The story however was good and the narrative always tried to stay out of your way only pausing the action briefly if necessary before allowing you to carry on your business with collectibles filling in the details of the backstory for you to read if you choose to. Despite any flaws Doom may have it still is quite a blast to play and is well worth playing through.

Let’s get this out of the way. This is a game simply made for gathering a lot of achievements and includes a complete alphabet, number, and symbol set for you to use in your showcase. That being said although some puzzles were quite easy to solve by clicking nearly any exploding block there were some that did require some timing and strategic clicking to solve. Although sometimes you’ll just get a completely lucky shot it at least appears to try to be a decent puzzler. Might be interesting to see if they come up with any new tricks in the sequels (hopefully).
