I’m surprised you removed Eidolon. It’s a simple yet very mysterious and relaxing game.
It’s just massive map to walk slowly around for very long time and notes with survival elements and some animals. It kind of represents me a game that just isn’t most likely enjoyable. HLTB showed 15h for main game which made me horrified, pair of hours and would have given a chance.
Walking sims and survival games are sadly genres that have majorly become mediocre in their existence. :l
If slowly walking around, getting lost and piecing together found documents is not something you like, I understand why you removed it. It’s just something I personally love and Eidolon is great for that. And it doesn’t take 15 hours but closer to 50 to find everything ;)
Indeed it’s something can find hardly enjoyment in, but plenty of people do love the scene you described. Casual, HOGs, Walkers and the like have quite sizable player base, for me those genres often tend to be not so interesting, besides walkers sometimes and some rare cases in casual. As example of good walker Outer Wilds was very impressive, as it did well balance several things while in it’s core it still feels like a walking sim. 15 hours already sounded way too much what Eidolon would offer, 50h for sure would be quite a thing to deal with personally! :D
Honestly quite many open world model games can struggle at those hours no matter if they are in other genres, as often the maps are just filled with empty space you spent time walking around. Starting to become welcoming more linear games due this later on. Metro Exodus for example was downgrade from previous games largely due open world slapped in it! x.x
For the record, I’ve uninstalled Eidolon. After 20+ hours, I started to feel what you felt earlier. The game became very samey everywhere and it was taking longer and longer to get to each memory fragment.
Hehe for me it was at 0 hours, actually didn’t even start it. Checked for videos and the like and fast came into the conclusion that it isn’t just for me. Not surprised it got bit tedious even if was relaxing due experience being just pretty much samey all over. Personally it tends to go play game through and then leave it, rarely postpone and more likelier remove from account if not liking the experience so far. Love that games show right on if they are something like that, worst is when you have gone through of it long time and it’s really punching you in the gut. :D
